With all things equal, I'd rather have the better WR over one who can play STs. IMO WR is a bigger need than STs. I'm not aware of any dire need on our STs. Our WR corps is very thin.

As fans we think that but I'm pretty sure the Jets don't share the opinion. They are looking at options, as they have at most positions, but are hardly searching under every rock and scrabbling around desperately. There have been options out there that they just haven't taken. All the options are either worse than what we have or the Jets themselves must be quite satisfied with the options they currently have. Perhaps it is just that the WR corps is unproven rather than thin. We will find out quite soon.

We have no evidence that all things are equal. In fact it’s more probable that they are equally bad receivers and one happens to be able to play special teams

I'm optimistic that Mims and Perriman will prove to be very good for us. I'm less optimistic about V. Smith, J. Smith, Cager and the rest. I think you're right that the Jets (or JD) don't share my concern/opinion. I hope they're right! If not, then I'll have to start questioning JD's acumen if he doesn't value WR or can't properly evaluate them, or if he values flexibility over quality.

I live in Scottsdale AZ and I am not scanning a AZ newspaper article and video of local newscasts for this site or any poster just to support my statement. If you are dubious then go do the research and if I am wrong call me out... .

Relax. No offense was meant. Obviously, I don't expect anyone to video a newscast or scan a newspaper article in. Over the years I've been posting on this site, I've seen a number of posters claim something that proved to not be accurate. They either got confused over the facts or read a guess that someone made and took it as gospel. I didn't remember who made those statements, and that didn't matter to be because my intent wasn't to impugn anyone's character or integrity. I just wanted to see a source, and I'm mystified why when I've been looking for stuff online about Butler, I can't find it. Usually posters do include links or quotes when they report something. When they don't, other posters have asked for links, and they were provided without anyone taking umbrage.

  12. Nice size but alittle lean which means hes deceptible to injury. Nice release but Not all that smooth, seemed slightly stiff..but his most impressive clips were the pivot routes...so he either has ankle or hip flex but likely not both.

His catching radius & body control are nice but he didnt seem to have that great of hops & is a complete body catcher. He loses alot of those contested balls in the Afc east.

    Edit:Quite honestly,Hakeem
butler’s college highlight reel blows this away.Much smoother vertically, ran more routes. & was much more impressive on contested balls. The only thing this guy seems to have over him is a better release & maybe runs the cross pattern alittle better

Me too, but if a WR ain't one of the top 3 then they're expected to contribute on Teams. Really, ANY position's 3rd, 4th or 5th player better contribute on Teams. TEs, LBers, Lineman, WR, DB, etc. If you're not a starter, you gotta offer SOMETHING to special teams.

    I don't think they'd keep a roster spot for a 5th WR who can't play teams.

I don't know how you get that he's a body catcher. I only saw one pass that he may have caught with his body. It was a sideline route and his back was to us. He high points the ball and clearly caught the ball with his hands on the rest of the passes. Either his hands or his concentration look a little shaky as he juggled a couple of passes, but managed to bring them in.

I have to totally disagree with your assessment of him. He has plenty of hops and doesn't look stiff at all to me.

Well when you aint got nothing (at WR) ya got nothing to lose

    Sign this beast!

  16. well im sorry you disagree.

He juggles everything up against his body, bc his hands arent great. He uses his wingspan & body control to make plays on contested balls. This is a form of a body catcher. And its not a slight.Alot of rebounders like him are body catchers..

Hes not all that smooth beyond his initial release & doesnt have alot of wiggle. Hes likely stiff in the hips..again not uncommon for the type of WR that he is.

Go back & watch all those contested balls..watch him when he leaps..doesnt get a whole lot of air. Hes winning w shear size & body control.

You know I respect your opinion greatly. We usually agree, but don't always have to agree.

I've usually heard "body catcher" as a put down or negative. If you don't think that's a negative, then we're not that far apart. I said his hands look shaky. He does juggle several of the catches, but he also snares some cleanly with one hand or plucks the ball at the high point cleanly with two hands, then he brings it in to secure it to keep the ball from getting knocked out. Most of the time it doesn't look to me like he's using the body to help catch the ball, but rather bringing it in to secure it, perhaps as he was coached to do, but you could be right. Since he can catch the ball cleanly at times, maybe it's a lack of confidence or focus. If so, that could be fixed.

With regards to his leaping ability, at 6'5" he doesn't have to get a great deal of air imo. How many NFL CBs are even over 6"1"? Many are 6' or under.

I haven't seen very many players with his size or who are "rebounder" types who have a lot of wiggle. That's ok imo. As big a target as they present, wiggle probably wouldn't be that great of an asset, or at least as much as size and power should be.

Another poster said that he can play STs. I don't see how he would be any better at STs than Butler. Do you?

I agree that I liked Butler better coming out of college.

I'm with you on Cager. Enough with the league retreads time to develop our own players. Throw Cager out there and let's see what happens. The WR unit has been a M*A*S*H unit all spring training. Cager can't hurt it that much.

Something defintaly is not right with Butler.

Released 2nd year into a 4 year cheap ass contract with the cards. Not claimed, not on a practice squad, cannot get on our practise squad.

Even stephen hill got a second chance.
