Interesting thread. Lots of good points made by posters on both sides of the particular issues. Like Acad23, I don't know a lot about analytics. I've never really been a fan of the NBA, and haven't watched baseball in around 20 years. I did see Moneyball, and have read that analytics are changing those two games dramatically. This thread has helped deepen my knowledge/understanding of it, and I appreciate all the viewpoints and info posted. I appreciate having statjeff on board to always present that aspect of looking at things. I hope that the Jets will make more use of analytics and do more than just hire that one guy, but like FJF, don't want the game to totally be ruled by analytics. One area where I think analytics can help is the late game calls by DCs or HCs to go to the "prevent" D when they are ahead. I think it has failed more than succeeded, and I believe that the statistics should bear that out.
