I'm beginning to think that many of the people on this forum want the chance to reunite with Paul Hackett or someone like him. Schotty is a good coach who is only going to get better. Why take the chance to get a horrible OC. It seems many of you want to take that chance. Not me. I'm happy with what we have, and I do not want it to leave for Detroit or anywhere else.
Shit. I only assume that Rex wants him. Frankly, I'd have let him walk. You don't want an angry employee.
I disagree, but for Christ Sake's why are other teams even interested in this guy right now? I mean I'd trust him for another year because Ryan's a D guy, but in no way should he be credible to other teams.
AND... Heimerdinger did a TERRIBLE job with the Titans this year, didn't he? Then again, he had a healthy QB, which he didn't have with the Jets. Then again, Schotty was missing a healthy QB for a few games...
He had 2 on the bench and one playing special teams. When you're QB has a bicep tear, conventional wisdom would tell you not to start him...
Those are my feelings, also, but i'm trying to look at this from the other prospective. Let's say Mangini tells Schotty he's gotta let "Favre be Favre", and a lot of the blame for the offensive woes have to point to Favre, and of course, Mangini. I really felt Mangini was put in a tight spot because of Favre. He's x amount of years younger then the guy, plus the QB's legend. I think Favre coached this offense almost as much as Schotty. And as a side note about Mangini. We had to know he was an asshole the way that whole Pete Kendall thing went down. I mean, putting the guy in the rookie dorms? Come on.
I don't like the idea of force feeding Rex with assistant coaches from the Mangini era. However, if Rex Ryan wants to keep him, I'm OK with Schotty staying.
Tanny's love affair with Shot really worries me. It just doesn't make any sense. And why keep a guy if he's not happy here, that doesn't show good judgement. And if you want continuity just make Callahan OC. And by the way, if continuity is really so important why did you trade for Favre? That trade threw a bigger monkey into the wrench than a coordinator switch ever does.
Mangini had ultimate responsibility but to not force feed the run against Oakland and Denver was criminal and Mangini said after the Oakland game at least that he and Schitty decided they could trick them by going to the pass. Those two games alone are reason enough for him to be kicked out of town. I am sure they only want him back so that Favre wouldn't have to learn another new playbook. If Favre came out today and said I'm retired I think you would see Schottenheimer gone tomorrow.
Mangini hired away 4 more coaches yesterday. I guess they have their hands full filling the empty slots. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9120210/Browns'-Mangini-hires-five-assistants
Schottenheimer has obviously sold the Jets a bill of goods and he's got a year to prove that he was being hamstrung by Mangini. I personally doubt it. This guy looks like nepotism incarnate, and barring a miracle, he's gone after this year. -X-
Play calling wasn't the problem it was Brett Favre's poor decisions. We're probably going to have a rookie QB so we'll run it a lot like we should have last season and throw when we need to.
I hope not. If we do the opposition will be putting 10 people in the box on 1st and 2nd downs. The Jets had that kind of offense for 10 years.
If we are forcing $hitenheimer to stay we are making a very serious error since the last thing you want to have on ur payroll is a unhappy employee
Det just hired Linehan....so unless Schotty has other options....he may have no choice but to suck it up and stay on.
