There is a difference between ill-advised, i.e. throwing passes up in the air for who knows to catch, and an interception. When he tries to force one in and the D makes a play, I'm OK with that. But the throwing off the back foot, across the field, up in the air has got to stop.
I never thought I'd see you get beyond your initial hatred of Favre. That was a good, objective post (for the most part).
That's Brett Favre, always has been, his last two playoff Int's, just blind throws to the defense. He is what he is, that's not going to change, sometimes it will work, other times game over.
I thought that damien woody got burnt way too much in this game giving up atleast two sacks which one ended up fumbling. Also I would say that Cotchery and Coles could not get open at all because I hardly saw them play. Cotchery had one catch all day... We had three chances to win in OT and couldn't get the job done. We couldn't execute.. and fanecas hold in OT didn't help either. We shot ourselves in the foot in many different ways this game. Blaming Mangini or Farve or something is not the answer. Penalties.. missed oppurtunities.. and no offense killed us
As I was complaining about the coaching staff I actually thought of the same thing w/ Coughlin and the Giants. He was terrible for most of the year and I thought they were screwed with him... but somehow he/they turned it around. i hope manging, shotty, and everyone else can do the same this year.
Here's the thing with Brett. As much as I have enjoyed watching him play throughout the years, when things aren't working well, that's when you will see the erratic plays. The reason is that Brett would rather go down swinging and lose than playing it safe and still lose. I liken it to a home run hitting baseball player. It could be the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded and the team just needs a hit to win the game. Yet, you know the hitter's nature is to swing for the fences every time. So you are either going to get a big hit or a likely a strikeout. That's what you get with Favre. But, if you will notice, it mostly happens with the offense is sputtering and he tries to make something happen. That is a fault of his. He isn't patient enough sometimes to just let things play out. Sometimes it results in a very exciting play. Other times you will pull your hair out. Take for example the second INT. The game wasn't out of hand yet. The Jets try to take some shots down the field. Because of a miscommunication between Favre and the WR (who cut his route short), Brett throws it long and the ball is picked off. You are going crazy at this point. But this is what I have liked about Favre in the past. That doesn't even phase him. The Jets get the ball back and he and the offense march the team down into FG range to tie the game. That's what you get with Brett as well.
