skeptical, happy that we got a legit play maker on offense (when healthy) from the receiver position. However the timing and cost/risk bother me. The timing doesn't bother me as much as the cost/risk. If it works out and we can somehow restructure his contract in the off season, then this was a great move. On the downside, if he gets hurt this year or we can't resign him in the off-season, we lose a pick for a rental on a presumed lost season. Seeing as idzik loves to "build through the draft" this seems out of his character to make this move. Although you can't predict your future draft pick you never know who you could get. However, even though it seems we throw away/misues 2nd-4th round draft picks anyway, this might not be the worst that can happen.
Get ready guys...per Rotoworld... A source tells the Seattle Times that Percy Harvin got into an altercation with Golden Tate during Super Bowl week last season, resulting in a black eye for Tate. This confirms an initial report from The Sideline View's Lance Zierlein. A source also tells the Seattle Times that Harvin had an altercation with Doug Baldwin in August that resulted in Baldwin getting a cut on his chin. A final straw was reportedly Harvin balking about going back into last week's game against Dallas, possibly angry over not being used more early on. Zierlein was told "Harvin's anger issues are just too much to deal with and he could single handedly bring down team chemistry."
The guy is going to the SuperBowl, having not even contributed during he seaosn, and fights his teammate.
I'm pretty skeptical about this only because Idzik presumably has a pretty good relationship with the Seahawks front office. Either 1) The Seahawks didn't disclose this info to Idzik, which in my opinion is unlikely given the prior working relationships. or 2) Idzik knows about these issues and has a reason to believe that they won't be a problem and/or it will be worth the cost. I guess we'll see; hopefully we don't have another Holmes on our hands. At the moment I'm extremely happy, though.
too little, too late and make or break if the jets somehow get to 8-8 this season, i think it actually saves idzik's job since I'm assuming harvin had a huge part in it. if we even for 7-9 it gives weapons to future qbs and possibly attracts them to come here. lots of questions though, this is pretty darn risky with his huge contract as well as the reports of him not getting along with teammates people are seeing this as low risk high reward but i'm seeing this as a pretty risky non-idzik type move
also people saying that a possible 2nd pick was a good move and somehow people didnt thought a 2nd for JOSH FREAKING GORDON was not a good move, i know the dude has problems but its not like harvin is that much better, not to mention older and not as talented
seriously tho fuck the nfl when percy was in the seahawks, everyone was drooling over him and saying how great he is when he's on the jets, everyone says he sucks and is a problem when the patriots get called on the push penalty last year, everyone said that game was stolen refs help patriots player not get penalized on blocked fg, refs do that all the time fuck the nfl, everyone hates the jets. fuck them, percy is a jet now and he's gonna light it up on this easy schedule
Josh Freaking Gordon hasn't played all year because of a suspension and is one strike away from a ban. Not sure where the confusion is on how bad of trade that would be.
It's not the nfl. It's the media. It's what sells. Just don't worry about what people are saying. This was a surprising trade so naturally the first question is "What's wrong with Harvin? Why would such a top-notch organization who traded multiple picks to get him trade him away?" Let's just see what he puts on the field before judging. At the very WORST we lose a 4th round pick and 7 million for the rest of this season of play. Oh well. The Seahawks original trade for him was much, much worse.
Lol it's funny this comes out now despite Percy being a key reason that Seahawks offense was so unpredictable in the SB... Then all this altercation stuff...Harvin shoulda had at least 5TD's on the season had the rest of his teammates not commit penalties on each of them. harvin Brings a dynamic the Jets need on the outside...can't wait to use him!
This will go down as one of the dumbest fucking moves the Jets have ever made, ESPECIALLY if we have to give up a 2nd round pick. - We now have 7 million left in roll over money, which is the exact amount a Top 5 guard costs. - We now are giving up at least a 4th round pick and maybe a 2nd. - We are now most likely going to win an extra 2 - 3 games and will have a worse 1st round pick. - Harvin is an asshole, which shouldn't shock anyone because nearly every Florida Gator from the Urban Meyer era is a fucking asshole. - He has no upside. At his very best he is a 900 yard, 6 TD receiver. He's costs way more then his production says he should cost. - Even if he is awesome, we still are not making the playoffs. This move was made because Idzik is desperate. The national consensus after the last 2 weeks against the Broncos and especially the Patriots is that Rex is a great coach doing everything he could possibly do, but Idzik set him up for failure. Same deal with Geno. Regardless of whether you think he sucks ass or not, it's impossible to deny that he has been set up for failure as well. The only upside of this move is that if it fails, then the Jets have an easy escape route, but that's pathetic if you ask me.
Harvin has all the leverage now. What's his incentive to negotiate a deal to bring his salary down for the Jets? None. Now he gets a chance to potentially earn himself another contract with statistically the worst QB throwing him the ball. This is Holmes all over again, except we actually know the season is over as opposed to when we had Holmes.
Agreed. It took all of 3 hours for Seahawk fans to turn on Harvin. He went from a Superbowl Savior to a violent thug beating up on other players in the blink of an eye.
I take it you're a new Jets fan... At WORST, we lose out on a 4th round pick and pay ~$6 million for a meaningless half-a-season rental. That's what happens at WORST. The Jets have made many, many, many worse moves in the past.
disagree on a few points. - We now have 7 million left in roll over money, which is the exact amount a Top 5 guard costs. we have more rollover than that, thats the amount we're losing, and we still have more than enough for whoever we want at something like 60-65 million in cap space before signings begin. - We now are giving up at least a 4th round pick and maybe a 2nd. thats the biggest shame, on the other hand if we give up a second it means somethings gone right on the field, which is its own reward. very un-idzik like though. - We are now most likely going to win an extra 2 - 3 games and will have a worse 1st round pick. heavens me, actually WINNING? say it ain't so joe! what an AWFUL THING TO HAVE TO AN OFFENSIVE WEAPON ABOARD THAT HELPS US WIN. ITS NOT LIKE BUILDING A WINNING TEAM IS THE GOAL OF THE FRANCHISE OR ANYTHING. - Harvin is an asshole, which shouldn't shock anyone because nearly every Florida Gator from the Urban Meyer era is a fucking asshole. his former teammates seems a bit broken up about him going, but hell theres enough evidence to suggest he has his own issues, so I'll let this one pass. - He has no upside. At his very best he is a 900 yard, 6 TD receiver. He's costs way more then his production says he should cost. he has plenty of upside, or rather, he has an elite bit of game breaking football speed that could mean a lot in this offense. - Even if he is awesome, we still are not making the playoffs. if he's awesome it means we have another awesome playmaker to work with however we want. wether we make the playoffs or not, thats STILL a very good thing going forward. The only upside of this move is that if it fails, then the Jets have an easy escape route, but that's pathetic if you ask me. no its not pathetic. its a GM getting a deal with a beneficial structure.
at first i was iffy about this move but i think at least watching jets games will be fun, when we got decker we were always like we need another speedster or a burner next to him. this is the guy. he's just a weapon and a great offensive tool. at worst he's 7 mil and a 4th rounder, which we know idzik will bomb anyways (its like giving up jalen saunders!) if he does well, we can set him up for next year and try to get hoyer on board to compete (and will probably win) against geno. offense weapons looking like this hoyer chris ivory chris johnson decker harvin kerley 2nd year amaro cumberland 1st round pick if you close your eyes and imagined this NOT being the jets you would say thats not half bad and considered a mid tier offense that could potentially make a playoff run
Harvins' locked up on a deal with no guarantees after being traded two times, really its the JETS that have the most leverage going forward if anything. though I question if the jets would even want him to renegotiate at all actually. This deal works for the jets, if his salary is brought down there would likely be some kind of renewed set of guarantees for Harvin. Who wants that? its better to be in a deal where theres no cost to move on from him in the next year. the jets CAN take his 10 million dollar cap hit next year if they think he's worth keeping. Its no skin of their back, assuming he's contributing, hell there would probably be a bit of cash spent on wideouts anyway so why not on Harvin? Holmes was a FA after that season, he absolutely had all the leverage going for him. Harvin just gives the jets options if anything.
If the contract details are right, the dude just has to earn another one year 10 million dollar deal each year. the moment he's not worth it, we can move on stress free. not even character concerns matter as much given how easy it is to move on form him, making this nothing like the Holmes deal. the only issue is the lost pickā¦ once again, whats the conditions? they matter a GREAT DEAL to whether or not this is, well, a great deal. hoping its date based, as in if he is on roster on such and such date the jets owe the seahawks a 2nd if not they owe them a 4th, like the Revis deal.
Are we forgetting that Golden Tate can be an asshole at times? Who cares if Harvin and Tate got into a scrap, they are men and playing a competitive sport. Things happen. This is all hogwash because the Jets got him. If Belichick traded for him ESPN and beat writers would be calling them "geniuses" and will say that "Brady finally has an offensive weapon".
