Had this been 3 years ago, I wanted Carr over Rodgers. Now, after the beating Carr has taken down in NO, I'd hard pass. Same with Cousins. Atlanta exposed his QB Drop off and the only thing Cousins is going to do is become a backup. That leaves, Fields IMO. On a side note, I find it kind of laughable that there are those out there floating Darnold's name. Do any of you seriously think that kid would come back here? After the way the organization treated him? The fans. That's one thing NY Fans need to start getting through their heads. "We" burn bridges of players, especially QB's. Some of the nasty stuff I read was pretty bad. Besides, he's going to get offers from "real" NFL teams that don't spend their entire existence on perennial re-build. Hell, if I were Donald and the Jets called I'd throw an extra $50 mill on the end of the contract just because. No, even without all the baggage, I'd rather have a very mobile guy back there, in Fields, than Darnold who is not as mobile. Until further notice, the Jets O-line still stinks. The Jets had their shot at Darnold and it didn't work out. Time to move on through 2025 and see what happens.
Here is a compilations of all 22 in depth analysis of Justin Fields' 2024 games by some really reputable folks, former QBs or Coaches. Missing only last game, where they put up 32 points with Justin having two rushing TDs. These who think Fields is garbage (@Jets79 , @REVISion, others) if you find time, take a look at the tape and also analysis by these guys, who are top notch analysts and actually watch all film. Let me know what you think. After watching the film, I feel Justin right now is an average starting QB, not some garbage starter. Is he great - no. But he is not bad at all. He is an upgrade over Rodgers today. Next year he will probably be better, because he improved every year thus far. And he is still 25 years old. This to me is as much a no brainer as there is one. I think there is a decent chance he might be solid this year or even a plus starter or better. And if he is not, we can draft a QB next year. Sign the guy to a 1-2 year deal, and then look to draft a QB in 2026 if it does not work out. We have an opportunity to get a young QB who can make every throw and a duel threat with good potential who is already decent without spending a draft pick. Easy decision. I’m all for grabbing Fields, but to say he’s an upgrade over Rodgers is ignorant. Rodgers just gimped his way to 10 more TD’s and 1000 more yards than Fields has ever had in a season. Frankly I don’t think you’ll ever see 28 passing Td’s and 3800 yds from Fields. Hell I don’t think he could touch 3800 yards even if you include his rushing yards. He may have potential to be an upgrade over a 41 yo QB with a gimpy Achilles and bad knees, but he’s not at the moment.
I watched every play of Rodgers - and there are some good stats and bad stats. Overall my conclusion is that he is a below average QB. After watching and analyzing hours of Fields tape above with some really knowledgeable people opining as well on the play designs in these videos, I think Fields is a little better now, and this is no disrespect to Rodgers who can still play and whom I like. And given another year where Rodgers is older and Fields has been improving every year, the projection is he should definitely be better in 2025. Watch some of the tape - above is nearly his entire season and then tell me what you think. But an opinion that Fields is better is not just based on tape, both passer rating (plus Fields is way more mobile) and QBR rate Fields higher too. It's not just me looking at the tape and going against all the numbers. But again, watch this film if you have some time and let me know what you think.
