Retarded thread... AFTER this season we'll be able to evaluate the 2010 draft. Anything before that is just stupid.
It's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way... Anyone that is serious knows the plan was to have Wilson and Vlad starting by their second year in the NFL. There were better Nickle candidates available if that was what we wanted and Vlad has lost two starting jobs without even taking the field.
You make no sense... Yes by thier second year merriam-webster dictionary: word "by" not later than in proximity to during the course of Do they not teach anything in school anymore? Idiocracy at its best... Do you need me to look that up for you too?
You started out the thread saying Vlad was supposed to be a starter last year, and Wilson probably should have. After being repeatedly proven wrong over the course of 3 pages (so far), you have backed off your original claim and am now leaning towards "by the second year". As for Wilson, two things would have to happen for him to be considered a starter. 1. Beat out Revis or Cromartie (not happening, especially in just his 2nd year) 2. The Jets not re-sign Cromartie or a big name corner. I doubt Tanny and Co's original plans were to spend a 2nd round pick on a one year rental, so this was unlikely as well. Therefore, it is unrealistic to say that they expected them both to be starters within their first 2 years in the league. As for knowing what idiocracy means, I hope you don't have kids, because you would only be contributing to that problem.
I see you like acronyms So I'll give you a little history on one, the F in yours is nothing more than another acronym this one for Fornication Under Consent of the King you Thanks for the treat
Ftr, and I think we can agree with this, the two most important people off the bench in the NFL these days, certainly in terms of how often they are in on plays, are the third wideout and the fifth defensive back. (Arguably the changeup running back is in there, too, so make that three, but for purposes of this argument...) Ironically I have seen people refer to Ellis last year as a rotational player, when he was clearly the starter. So what is it with the definition of starter??? Of course the third wideout and the fifth defensive back should not be considered starters in the everyday sense of the word. But it is in fact fair and true to acknowledge their importance relative to other bench players. That being said I do recall that there was hope and even indications that Wilson would be the bench secondary player who would see the most snaps off the bench. I don't have the hard numbers before me, but I don't think that proved to be the case last year. Imo he did not meet the CS's expectations last year. I also expect him to improve, but it cannot be said that he looked good even for a rookie last year. I also completely agree that it can be way premature to reach conclusions regarding a draft's results. That is a truism. But I see nothing wrong with assessing where we are in reaching reasonable goals, in the sense of seeing how things are progressing and how much more needs to be seen in the way of improvement before the draft cannot be pronounced a success or even just average. There's no rule here against doing so that I am aware of. Please proceed...
It is still way too early to make a definitive evaluation on Wilson and McKnight. They both have shown flashes of ability. Based on last night, Ducasse may just be a wasted pick, fat, dumb and stupid is no way to go through life.
With how many teams put at least 3 WR's on the field, nickleback is super important. The kid could still start in a year or two if we get another Revis holdout or injury. I wouldn't write him off yet, plenty of first year CB's look bad but turn it around. Ducasse is scary right now because his pass blocking is super-ass bad. He was a project, they switched his position around, etc. If any of these picks look like a possible bust it's Ducasse but just like Wilson he hasn't had enough playing time to really evaluate him. If he gets better at pass blocking (which I would assume is possible) he will be fine. McKnight had 158 yards against the Bills last season. Maybe the coaching staff is down on McKnight which is why they drafted Powell...or maybe they just realize that LDT isn't going to be around forever and Greene is injury prone? If I had to bet, I'd say that Wilson, McKnight and Conner will still be around, with Ducasse depending on if he learns how to pass block. I'm not ready to write off Wilson or McKnight just because they're not starting.
In today's NFL the nickel CB is as important as a starter depending on the team you face. If Wilson develops into a solid nickel than it is a well invested draft pick. Ducasse kinda sucks McKnight is gonna be a decent role player for this team, he has too much natural ability not to and it seems that the CS is working hard to get his head on straight. Conner will be one of the top FBs in the league sooner rather than later.
