wrong...it was an open competition. Get your facts straight. wtf?! wrong again....if Wilson was to be the incumbent starter, why did the Jets go hard after Aso, and then sign Cromartie anyway. *facepalm*
Wilson didn't work out as the third outside corner or nickel corner last year. We'll never know but I would bet that on draft day they thought he'd be able to handle one or both roles (and for the first three weeks of the season they thought so as well, playing him all the time). They were obviously wrong because he was terrible as a rookie; they probably did move him around too much and ask too much of him. He should improve this season.
He wasn't penciled in to shit. He was drafted to compete at LG if he could develop quickly and to be the future at RT. Slauson won the competition. Vlad wasn't 'supposed' to start. He was supposed to compete. Show me where Rex said he was going to be the starter this season. Show me where Rex said that Cromartie was being brought in for just the one season. We didn't extend Cromartie during the year last season because the 30% rule would have dictated that Cromartie make a maximum of $2.21 million in base salary in 2011 with only 30% escalators throughout the life of the contract. There was NO WAY the team was going to give him a signing bonus big enough to make up the difference. You have no fucking clue what the plan was, any more than any of us do. Just admit it's your fucking guess. Washington is shit at this point. He returned the ball well, but was absolutely terrible last year running the ball for Seattle. Woodhead was a GREAT fit for the Patriots, not for us. Plenty of us said as much when he was released and scooped up by New England. Do you ever say anything right?
all i see is a giant crappy post with completely inaccurate information how you've been around long enough to actually secure the name "JetsFan" is beyond me
Which part? Enlighten me... Woodhead being a MUCH better THIRD down back than McKnight? How many catches, yards and blocks more did he get? Washington being a MUCH better return guy than McKnight? Can't remember how many return TDs McKnight had either. Vlad being penciled in as a starter then demoted? Tell me that didn't happen.... What about all the original talk of him replacing Woody this year, oh he didn't get that either. Wilson was ranked as the TOP 1 or 2 college corner back in the draft last year and 2nd one taken, yet not being picked to START at CB within two years? I thought we just payed $10M a year to Cromartie instead?
I can, can't you? 1 - 2010 last season... he didn't start 2 - 2011 this year... still not starting at CB With Cromartie and Revis signed for the next three years he will NOT be starting.... EVER unless there is an injury
As for RB's, next year I think McKnight will be the 3rd down back and Greene & Powell will split 80/20 (LT won't be here). Once LT leaves (assumption), the Jets won't have to draft another rb since we got Powell. (at least that's what they probably hope) Vlad does look gross at RT. Probably better suited at RG and i don't think that even looks pretty. Wilson will play nickel and i expect him to get better, not great, but better at that position. probably won't start unless cro/rev go down, which we hope is never.
sounds like a great problem to have, especially if Wilson keeps improving. That's how depth at a position works.
you're an idiot. he was DRAFTED TO BE OUR STARTING NICKEL. we traded for cromartie before the draft. and 2011 season hasn't even started yet, let alone concluded. holy fuck
Rex loves corners and you play three corners at least 50 percent of the time these days so he doesn't need to start to be a good pick. He does need to be good enough to be the fifth defensive back on the field.
JetsFan starting threads...very unwise, seems to like getting beaten up. He even asks us to bash his Thread. Your opinion of Kyle Wilson is completetly off base. Kyle Wilson was NEVER drafted to be the starting CB, maybe a future starter. Revis and Cro were on the team before the draft. IMO, Wilson was the BPA and the uncertainty of Revis' contract was good insurance. Also, the way Manning ripped apart our #3 & 4 corners in the 2010 AFC Championship game made Wilson a good selection. I'll make no excuses for Vlad, he has to become much better in pass protection. Over extends, doesn't move his feet and doesn't get low into almost a "sitting postion" to pass block, fundamentals suck. Vlad is above average in supporting the run. Needs to get his act together real quick. You're giving up on Joe McK too early. McKnight has shown flashes, and is an incredible athlete.
