Prob the same fans who think you can win a Sb with Chad Pennington or Shaun Ellis and Kenyon Coleman at De.

Do I think they should have went from 4-12 to SB in one year? No but I certainly think they could have. 4-12 went out the window once they were 8-3 this year and looking like one of the best teams in the whole league until Brett Favre became the worst QB in the league. Obviously Favre wasn't the only problem but all the other problems could have been overcome with better QB play.

Listen I wanted Favre since the first day it became a possibility even if at the time it seemed like a remote possibility. I still to this day think it was the right move to make, unfortunately for real Jets fans it didn't work out but like I said if they bring him back for a second year with a new HC it will become a disaster. Jets need to find their next QB now, could you imagine Favre playing for Rex Ryan? I don't think that would work out too well..

It is best for the Jets to build this team around their new HCs mentality, not a 40 year old QB.

Yes, unless you are inheriting an already "close to" ready made winner !!

    Jet Fans:

What's a reasonable time frame for turning a 10-6 playoff team into a super bowl contender?

    The real question should be:

What's a reasonable time frame for turning a 9-7, almost playoffs but not quite because of a late season collapse, into a Super Bowl contender?

good point before going 4-12 we were 10-6 so just because the team regressed badly doesnt mean we get to start over.

That question was not intended towards this season.

What I'm getting at is, in 2006, we were 10-6 and a playoff team with little talent. The OP is trying to stress that it is impossible to turn a 4-12 team into a super bowl contender in 1 year. But is it not possible to turn a 10-6 team into a super bowl contender in 2 years? That's what we tried to get done, Mangini had 2 years to turn his 10-6 team into a super bowl team, and never returned to the playoffs even after spending $140 million to improve this team.

Can't turn a 10-6 team into a super bowl contender in 2 years while adding a ton of talent to the squad? Failure.

2 years to get to 2 and 14 and pick a franchise QB, 3 years to develop the franchise QB and a 3 year window to win with developed franchise QB. 5 to 8 years.

    You are missing my point.

You are telling everyone to calm down because we weren't supposed to be good this year anyway, and I'm telling you that we were. 2 years after a 10-6 year, bringing in tons of FA talent, is the perfect time to make a run. We blew it.
