I've been skeptical about Brett coming to the NYJs because he said repeatedly, both directly and through his minions and his behavior, that he wanted to go somewhere else. Sometime yesterday, though, one of the reporters caught Deanna Favre waving to the gallery while talking raptly on the cell phone, telling 'somebody' that "You're just being stupid." This got me to thinking. Apparently, from other reports, it was Deanna and other members of Brett's family that continued to talk about the NYJs as a viable alternative during all this "fallduroll" that's been going on. Brett's whole point of view was that he just wanted to keep doing what he was used to doing with folks he knows what to expect from. The comfort level was all-important to him. Somebody in his family apparently thought that this could be a suicidal strategy for Brett and his playing football. How do you motivate a 39 year old from acting like and then becoming an old 40 year of age greybeard? Perhaps you put him in an environment where there are only strangers and everything is different from what he's used to. Perhaps you force him to "start over" with his knowledge and tools on a brand-new learning curve with little or no comfort level available. Somebody he listening to was asking a question for Brett Favre to answer: How good are you really, Brett? Interesting risk for Brett Favre. As far the NYJs, they really have nothing to lose. They've been losing every other year forever. This is supposed to be an "up" year schedule wise, and the CS and FO have certainly done everything to support an "up" year. If Brett doesn't deliver, it's not on them. They've already moved heaven and earth for this franchise. With the cap, what more can we ask? Well, we can ask for a consistent and dominating offensive line, a consistent running game, backs who can block, not just run. Also, we're going to need some speed. Don't be surprised if the fastest WRs on the team have suddenly become a lot more important than just the veterans. If you want Brett to chunk the pumpkin you better have somebody who can catch up to the damned thing before it hits the ground. Remember, that YAC has to do with beating the DB quickly and then outrunning everybody to the end-zone. From what Tannenbaum said last night, don't be surprised if we find out that BS has been changing the playbook for the past two weeks as this has been going on. Oh yeah, and poor ole Billy Bellichick... he's going to have to change a lot of the stuff he was planning to do now for his nemesis... His work is just never done, is it...?
The Jets have a legitimate shot at 400 points scored for the first time since 1998. That's gotta be worth a 4th round pick given all the other moves that they've made pointing at the next couple of years. Do I think it's going to work out? Flip a coin and see which way it lands. BTW, Favre has a poor record in playoff games over the last half dozen years, finishing 3-5 against a much weaker bracket than the AFC normally produces. I wouldn't expect him to make the Jets competitive with the Pats, Colts, Jaguars and Chargers if the Jets do make the playoffs. He'll be fun to watch though.
the jets are really a good team, and the teams knew when they played us that they wont go deep, now they have to worry about the deep ball and will open up leon and thomas jones, think about it.
There's a multiplier affect with this, I'm thoroughly convinced of that. Just the THREAT of a pass from Favre will improve our running game immediately.. I am talking Game One in Miami. When we start running the ball well, which we will be doing, they'll have to stop that, which will open up the passing game. Then the running game, then the passing game.... it all feeds on itself. You take a team like the 4-12 Jets, especially with our schedule this year and all the assets we've brought in on Defense as well as Offense, and it can turn things around so much that the Jets could look like a completely different team this year.
HEY BRETT "Better a Jets than a Bucs !!!!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Better Here than in Tampa, At least We don't have to play him twice a year.
