I haven’t seen the Bills 2 other games but I’m curious as to what talent Darnold displays that’s far above what Allen is showing.
I too would of liked to keep Robby when looking the deal he did get, not that I'm a fan of his but at least it would of provided Sam with a cheap and comfortable safety blanket but then again how often is Gase going to dial up a play that tells Robby to go long and for Sam to air it out?
there is only so much to fix in 1 off season. he focuse don giving sam protection. he signed van roten, fant, and mcgovern (the entire right side of the line) drafted becton 11th overall and resigned lewis. our line is better but with injuries it's been rough. The big blame I have on JD is not resigning robby. he has 20 catches 278 yards 1 TD. the entire jets receiving group has 35 catches for 456 yards 3 TDs. robby alone has more then half of our entire WR group combined in production. he's on pace for 1400 yards and over 100 catches
Nothing. That's my point. I think it was pretty widely accepted that Darnold was a more talented QB than Allen, yet the Bills did everything right and the Jets did everything wrong... now Allen is the star early on and Sam is starting down the barrel of his third head coach in three years.
75% of this board made it seem like Allen would never even complete an NFL pass bc of his percieved poor accuracy 70% of the board thought Maholmes wasnt accurate & that his lack of footwork would make him a bust While im still licking wounds from thinking Paxton Lynch would be a superstar, ive learned this board is far from An authority on QBs.
I’m just not sure there was any point where Allen was far less talented than Darnold. I know it was a popular opinion on here for obvious reasons, but maybe the Bills got that right and we got it wrong, contributing to their faster turn around. Not that any of that matters at this point.
Manish likes controversy, he's a reporter. I stopped reading after "Joe Douglas has his fingerprints all over this mess, too." It should be "Joe Douglas took over this mess......." What fingerprint? One year in the draft with most of the players on the injured list? Is that Douglas's fault? Should Seattle blame Pete Carrol because of Adam's groin injury? Ok, maybe Desir may turn out to be a bust but that's the risk you take to try to fill needed spots with players you think will fit the system. It's still pretty much the same team from last year on D but Williams has been horrific, and I couldn't provide a clear reason why this is the case and no one has to this point. It's easier to fire the coach instead of 53 players.
EXACTLY!! That is SO horrendous ... incomprehensible! And that doesn’t even include his last draft...where we had a third round pick in Polite who didn’t even make the team! but wait...there’s more! Our dumb bastard passed on both Watson and Mahomes to take a damn safety, because, well, he had Hackenberg! Criminal! I would say it doesn’t get any worse, but if you also throw on Idzik’s drafts before that then we can really understand why we suck so badly. literally unbelievable how incompetent our GMs have been.
Haven't you figured out why the Jets fans are the greatest GMs? They use what no NFL GM has, that's hindsight 20/20 there credo is always, I wanted, or we should've.
I sent a letter to both JC and JD.... You can agree to disagree but here is what I wrote to JD: Mr. Douglas, I realize you inherited a mess so I have tried to be fair with respect to the following: · Drafted what looks like a franchise LT for the next decade (barring injuries) · Got a potential #2 receiver in Denzel Mims in the second round, while moving down in the draft to do it. · Traded a disgruntled free safety, who thinks he is better than he is, and turned him into 2 first round draft picks and a 3rd round pick over the next two drafts. · Rebuilt the entire OL. 5 new starters, including said franchise LT and (upon early returns) a decent RT in George Fant. He also drafted a solid G in Cameron Clark. Is this unit perfect? No, but not bad considering they are all brand new parts. · Traded Leonard Williams for a 3rd round pick last year (which we used on Ashtyn Davis) · Signed multiple guys to 1 year "see what you can do" type deal Unfortunately, however, this year’s version of the new and improved OL was rated worst in the league for giving up pressures in week one (1). According to NextGen Stats, the Jets allowed a pressure rate of 44.7 percent in Week 1 – the highest of any team in week one. Sam was sacked three times, was constantly flushed out of the pocket, and was knocked down four times. The running game finished with just 52 yards on 16 carries and no touchdowns – the worst performance (and that is saying something) in the Gase era since Week 8 of 2019 when the Jets rushed for just 46 yards on 14 carries. Sam has shown flashes of being a very good NFL caliber QB, when given the time and tools Has he? In my humble opinion, he has not. I realize that Sam needs to be a better decision maker, have better footwork and be more consistent but isn’t that why Adam Gase was hired to help him get better, improve the flaws, and win games? Has he? Frankly, SAM looked looser and better prepared at the end of his rookie year then he does now. I think most people with a modicum of common sense see what is happen to him in the two years that Adam Gase has coached him, and how this organization has “supported him.”
Using OVERTHECAP.COM, I took a quick glance at teams projected to be over the cap next year. While I understand that this is not reflective of rolled over money, potential cuts etc, just want to get a preliminary look at some of the teams that will have to make some difficult cap decisions and how that benefits the NYJ, especially if things keep trending the way they are and we are resetting around a rookie QB contract and the window that affords to build a team. There will be lots of players shaking loose next year. So while I know I’ve been personally critical of Douglas to some extent not spending enough to put people around Sam to give a fair assessment of him, he clearly will have an opportunity with excess draft capital and cap space to significantly upgrade the team for a new coach and new QB. My major fear is are we so bad and such a mess that we will have to overpay to get talent here? If you check the link, there are some solid teams projected to have a lot of cap space too (Colts, Ravens, Patriots Cardinals) https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/
The Ravens have some players they're going to have to pay (Ronnie Stanley, Judon, Skura, and of course decide what they're going to do with Jackson). The Patriots never play in free agency but they also don't have a legitimate QB on the books so we'll see what happens with that. The Colts look like they're in the best shape to spend as they have their core assets under contract and they'll likely draft a quarterback where ever they fall and maybe re-sign Brissett as insurance.
I wonder just how much Jackson will get. Surely he can't get more than Mahomes, especially with the cap expected to go down.
The Ravens proved that they're not married to any system or quarterback or player when they pivoted from Flacco to Jackson. I'm not convinced they give him a big deal yet. I can see them rolling with him all the way through the 5th year option and see what playoff success he has. He was dreadful last night and it felt like the Titans playoff game all over again. He is a good enough passer to be a good player in this league for a long time. But is he a good enough passer to win playoff games?
That's an interesting way to do things. I can see us doing the same with Sam if we don't get a top 2 pick. We can see if a new CS and better supporting cast can bring out his best while limiting the worst moments.
The Cowboys are rolling the dice on Dak to see if he's worth it under the franchise tag. I understand Jerry changes his tune every week but they could move on from him. https://sports.yahoo.com/donovan-mcnabb-calls-cowboys-jerry-152202304.html I think teams are going to be more willing to move on from their quarterbacks rather than be stuck in Andy Dalton/Jay Cutler/Derek Carr situations.
I’ll blame him for not re-signing Anderson and not targeting another WR instead of Zuniga or Davis. This roster is the culmination of 10+ years of pisspoor drafting and FA acquisitions.
I believe by the end of next year's draft we'll see the type of team Douglas wants to build. If we don't, and it still looks patchwork, then I'll be first in line to criticize him. But as I've said a number of times already, I believe he has a blueprint he's using, and will only sign players that fit that plan. Those that don't are getting 1 year contracts, or being let go. If this is not what he's doing, I'll be shocked and disappointed to say the least.
