MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0044 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 1032 PM CST MON JAN 26 2015 AREAS AFFECTED...LONG ISLAND...CONNECTICUT...RHODE ISLAND...AND MASSACHUSETTS CONCERNING...BLIZZARD VALID 270432Z - 270900Z SUMMARY...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP/EXPAND THROUGH THE NIGHT. DISCUSSION...04 UTC SURFACE ANALYSIS CONTINUES TO SHOW A STRONG ARCTIC HIGH CENTERED OVER SOUTHEASTERN QUEBEC...EXTENDING EASTWARD OVER TO THE WESTERN ATLANTIC OCEAN. TO THE SOUTH OF THIS ARCTIC HIGH...A LOW LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 275 STATUTE MILES SOUTHEAST OF NEW YORK CITY WAS RAPIDLY DEEPENING /AS EVIDENCED BY 03 UTC 2-HOUR PRESSURE FALLS IN EXCESS OF 7MB AT BUOY NUMBER 44008 SOUTHEAST OF NANTUCKET/. IN BETWEEN THESE TWO FEATURES...A STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT WAS ALREADY IN PLACE...AND WILL ONLY INTENSIFY AS THE SURFACE LOW DEEPENS. SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE REGION ARE ALREADY IN EXCESS OF 20 KNOTS /WITH GUSTS NEARING 50 KNOTS ALONG THE COAST/ WILL ONLY INCREASE THROUGH THE NIGHT. ADDITIONALLY...STRONG LOWER-TROPOSPHERIC THETA-E ADVECTION AND FRONTOGENESIS WILL COMBINE TO PRODUCE AN EXPANDING AREA OF SNOW IN EXCESS OF 1 INCH PER HOUR. GIVEN THE INCREASING LOWER-TROPOSPHERIC FRONTOGENESIS...BANDING STRUCTURES WITHIN THE BROADER SNOW AREA WILL PROMOTE SNOW RATES WELL IN EXCESS OF 1 INCH PER HOUR...LOCALLY APPROACHING 4 INCHES PER HOUR...OR GREATER. THE COMBINATION OF STRENGTHENING SURFACE WINDS AND INCREASING SNOW RATES WILL RESULT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS FOR MUCH OF THE OVERNIGHT. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT THE AREA WITH GREATEST LIKELIHOOD OF PROLONGED BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL EXIST FROM EASTERN LONG ISLAND NORTHWARD ACROSS EASTERN CONNECTICUT AND RHODE ISLAND NORTHWARD INTO THE BOSTON METROPOLITAN AREA. ..MARSH.. 01/27/2015 ATTN...WFO...GYX...BOX...OKX...ALY... Ok...finally have come to grips with something..and its not what you guys would think. I have to apologize for me saying half hour or 15 minutes. link: please click the link after reading this: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=OKX&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=yes Ok...in all my years of following radars...I have never EVER seen radar returns move so slowly. I usually can just look at a radar and say 1 hour..2 hours...10 minutes. THIS IS CRAWLING WHICH MEANS 2 VERY IMPORTANT THINGS. 1. It makes me look like an asshole..but more importantly 2. What comes in slow goes out slow so once the heavy stuff gets there..it will stay there for hours. So once you go to 1 inch..then 2 inch...and maybe more and hour...you will stay there..and thats how SOME big numbers will be met..so areas in North Jersey...CBG...hopefully FJF...and areas along the shore, just keep cool because once they finally arrive they will stay and it will be really cool to watch.
Live update from a friend in Queens who is very conservative and wrote off this storm 2 hours ago: Very Heavy Snow now. I think the cameras in Manhattan may start to change soon.
Still steady but light here,,,,,,crazy cold and windy but who cares,,,fires still roaring and vodka still flowing,,,crawl? Slow? Lotsa snow ? I'm in !
Some of the pictured out of Eastern LI are gonna be sick. They probably have 10" by now and will probably get close to 30" and the winds there are insane. Drifts should be incredibly huge. Especially along the North Fork where you have large farm areas with open land.
North Flushing/Whitestone area reporting 2 inch an hour plus rates currently..if anyone is near there would love a verify..all heading WEST.
lol...very good GD..very good. Just updated site with interesting stuff. Will post latest NWS discussion in several minutes.
CBG...around 20 minutes..even with this crazy slow rate...to getting into the heavier stuff my friend..dont pass out yet!!!!
MUTE>..nothing? Are you staying up for another half hour? I really would like to know if this heavy band that is right down the street from you make it there..try to update me.
Jay wide awake here,,lit but wide awake,,you got me most of the nite I'm in,,,,,its a marathon not a sprint,,,,,,keep em coming
Looks like no snow for the next three hours. Great, now I get to wake up at 5am to see if work is delayed or canceled. State of Emergency be damned, doesn't apply to me.
