The NJ Turnpike is now closed as flooding has taken out part of the stretch between Woodbridge and Newark.
I'm mesmerized by the chick doing the signing for the deaf. So much expression. I love the really obvious 'signs', like the shaky crane or the bridge collapse
i have water in the house now, there is a river outside my front door and in the driveway, this sucks..
I live in Northern VA. I was expecting things to start ramping down by now, but the storm is stronger now than ever. Hoping not to lose power....need to make it a few more hours. Stay safe everyone in the NY/NJ area. I am sure you guys are getting hit hard.
NWS reporting record water levels in NYC at Battery Park by over 3 1/2 feet!!!! In parts of Ocean County the ocean has met the bay... never a good thing.
CNN just reported 13.8 ft above sea level at Battery Park. I think they said the old record was 10.2 ft.
Nothing too exciting, it's not like in the movies with giant tidal waves crashing into manhattan. More like a slow quiet rise. The subways are going to be totally fucked for days if not longer. NYC will be out of commission for a while
It appears that Ocean County between LBI and Mantoloking are really getting the worst of this. Mantoloking is only one town over from my hometown of Point Pleasant. I'm taking the no news is good news approach but I have not heard anything about Point other then some flooding earlier today. And it appears Funtown Pier in Seaside has had at least part of it fall into the ocean with the possibility of complete collapse. The ocean has met the bay in many parts of the Central Jersey.
I'm seeing tweets that Belmar is completely underwater and the the rescue crews are having to swim to peoples houses to rescue them. Apparently they have moved operations to higher ground.
