This is actually my preferred approach too, but I just don't think Macc will do it. I'll keep my fingers crossed though.
I think Cutler is actually the worst qb they could pick...As much as he is physically gifted he is not really a team player in the sense that he's not a very likable guy from what I've heard. For a rebuilding team you need your qb to be your leader and JC does not check that box whatsoever.
if he were to come at all it would be for a year, doesn't matter what his personality is. of course it will look like a two year deal and after we cut him we will carry 5 or 6m in dead money like we do with everybody we sign to this team.
True but we also want our vet qb to be there for our young guys as a mentor. Cutler seems like the kinda guy who's who is to big to help in that department.
I thought Cutler was very popular with some, not all, of the locker room. I know Marshall was not a Cutler guy, but I thought Forte was.
Bowles shouldn't be the one to decide how the Jets approach 2017. If the Jets should take the approach I suggested, which would have to be an organization decision, then Bowles should not be held to the same win-loss standard as if the Jets had decided to keep their vets and augment with a FA QB and others. It brings up an interesting point though. Some coaches are better managing veteran teams and others are better with young players. Bowles was brought in to coach a veteran team with mixed results. How he will do if his task is to coach a rebuilding team is a legitimate question.
