I know this ... I meant that it's not a big deal that the rams decided to fork over the cash. They had not leverage in the deal
It does smell funny doesn't it? But the Rams HAVE been collecting shitty ex-jets this offseason. For some reason ...
Even though I know Wayne Hunter personally (went to school together), he is not cut out to be a starter in the NFL, never was. He filled in decently during the 2010 season but after last year, there's no way he should have been brought back, except maybe as a backup.
They took Schottenheimer, Clemens, Mulligan and Gholston before that. Shouldn't you be suspicious of that too? If at all, you should be suspicious of whether their GM is brain dead or not.
from the moment i heard this,i knew wayne was no good for us.i mean how could they know what was coming. he was tipping the play http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=6081188 ARLINGTON, Texas -- If it looked like the Pittsburgh Steelers knew what plays the New York Jets were going to run at the goal line in the AFC Championship Game, it's because they did. Defensive end Ziggy Hood and outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley, both of whom were instrumental in breaking up second- and third-down pass plays, said Tuesday that Jets right tackle Wayne Hunter tipped the plays by the way he lined up in his stance. The Jets were stopped four times inside the 3 at the start of the fourth quarter, a pivotal sequence in their 24-19 loss at Heinz Field. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has been heavily second-guessed for his play calling, particularly the quick slant on third down that was defended by Woodley. Jets: Take 'Em or Trash 'Em? The Jets finished one win shy of the Super Bowl. With a busy offseason looming, let us know who should stay and who should go. Vote Now! Woodley said he noticed Hunter in a two-point stance, which told him it was going to be a pass. "It was a third down, and most teams are going to run there," Woodley said during Super Bowl XLV media day at Cowboys Stadium. "The offensive linemen usually get in a three-point stance, ready to charge at you. I read the line. I saw [Hunter] was standing back in a pass set, so I decided I wasn't going to rush upfield because I knew they were going to try something quick in that situation. "[Mark Sanchez] threw the ball and hit me right in the chest," Woodley continued. "I should've caught it and ran it back 99 yards." Asked specifically if Hunter tipped the play, Woodley said, "Yeah, he was standing up, like it was a pass set." On the previous play, Hood and Woodley were in Sanchez's face almost immediately on a play-action rollout. Their pressure affected Sanchez's throw, which was low and outside to Dustin Keller -- an incompletion in the end zone. "I knew they were going to try something funny, maybe a rollout or a sprint pass," Hood said. "I came off the ball and was in the backfield and forced him to make a bad decision." Hood said he "could tell by the stance of the lineman" that it was going to be a pass, although he refused to divulge the specific tip-off. He said "there was something I didn't like. [Hunter] backed up a little bit and I just knew it would be a pass." Jets blog Looking for more on the green and white? ESPNNewYork.com has you covered. Blog The Jets' touchdown bid ended on fourth down, when LaDainian Tomlinson was stuffed on an up-the-middle running play from the 1. They trailed by 14 points at the time. Asked if he was puzzled by the Jets' play calling, Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel smiled and said, "I'm glad he did it." Schottenheimer hasn't been made available by the Jets to comment on the game. For the most part, the Steelers gave the Jets credit for battling back after trailing 24-0. The two teams share a mutual respect, although safety Ryan Clark took issue with the Jets' claim that the poor start was due to being emotionally flat. "People try to attribute different things to it, but we just outplayed them," Clark said. "We played better football than they did. I'm not going to come out and say, 'Oh, we were better than them because they weren't ready and they weren't fired up.' On that day, on that night in the first half, we were a better football team than they were." Cornerback Ike Taylor said the Steelers smelled Super Bowl. "Being in that position, only one game away, the NFL says it best: Win or go home," he said. "We felt like we didn't want to go home. Now we're here, and the Jets are home."
Actually Clemens played pretty decent for them at the end of last season. He should make an okay backup for Bradford. Might actually get some starting time too because their Oline sucked even before WFH got there.
With Rams eating up that signing bonus of Smith, this trade just balanced in Jets favor. The only reason I was against this trade was for the cap implications. Apparently both contracts were almost the same. Getting rid of WFH then became a no brainer for Tanny. Fuck yeah!!!
Anybody watch the replay of Rams-Cowboys on NFLN last night? Smith played basically the entire 2nd half. I watched most of the 3rd quarter which included about 4 drives w/ Smith. I came away really impressed. He's got great feet, mirrors well & when he gets his hands on defenders it's over. Now he was playing against back-ups. But he was dominating & looked the way a potential starter should in that situation. I think he will give Howard a run for his money. He has vastly superior feet. Obviously, he had a falling out w/ the Rams & he definitely has his skeletons. But comparing Hunter w/ Smith is night & day.
Rich Cimini @RichCimini Got a chance to talk with Jason Smith: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- and someone thought I was beautiful." #Jets ooook
Smith is a slightly below average OT. He's a huge step up from Hunter. The reason the Rams traded him was because when you're a 2nd overall pick and you're suppose to replace Orlando Pace, slightly below average means that you're a huge bust and every one in St Louis was letting him know that. He needed a fresh start, somewhere where he wasn't supposed to be a HOFer even before he played his first pro game.
Did anyone see the Smith interview? The guy really has a good attitude, seems focused and has a good head on his shoulders. I think we may have hit jackpot on this one.
My grandpa got sent to the shipyards in New York and Jersey when I was younger, and one of the first things he brought back for me was a Jets shirt and mug. Kinda just stuck with me eversince. I'm probably only one of a handful of Jets fans in Hawai`i.
That's awesome. I try and come out every other winter to surf.... good friends on the North Shore. This year came out right after the SB for 3 weeks. It would be tough for me to watch JETS games at 8 am. beers for breakfast?
Oh yes, North Shore pumps during the Winter months! Crappy summer for South Shore though. And yes, sucks that games start at 0700 and than 0800 during daylight savings time. Spam and beer for breakfast!!
