How did I miss that? A new punter! (And a Gamecock at that, I'm probably the only one left who cares)
Wow! The rams paying Smith the signing bonus before sending him over was huge for us. Now we have swapped RT's and will only owe Smith 2.45 mil. I have high hopes that Smith can flourish in NY and grow into a starter for us. I believe this trade was a steal.
We'll see if a change of scenery resurrects Brown's career. Starting your first couple seasons for one of the crappiest franchises over the last few years sure don't help your confidence. I for one would be hella stoked to go from the Rams to the J-E-T-S.
This makes the deal ok from my perspective. Better to have the devil that might be than the devil that ate your QB's face.
They not only paid the Jets they took on Wayne Hunter. That's just an insane sequence of events. Smith must have gotten to the point with them where they thought he was costing them ticket sales by wearing the uniform.
It's understandable...since he was a 2nd overall pick it must have been pretty annoying from a fans perspective even if he wasn't an all out "bust" (like Gholston) I'm glad we're benefiting greatly from that, though.
"First of all, you will take Wayne Hunter off our roster. Secondly, you will give us a player to act as a fill in. Third, you pay us $1.55 million."
hopefully smith will prosper from a change of scenery and not having to play for schotty. I suspect he will not be much better than WFH and I am concerned about his history of concussions. But that said, Kudos to MR. T. for shipping WFH for a younger RT w/at least a chance of getting better. Best of luck to WFH...and Sam Bradford.hmy:hmy:hmy::rofl: Sanchez's life insurance premiums just went down.
This all makes less sense than the Jets guaranteeing Hunters salary to begin with, but in a good way this time. WTF is wrong with the Rams?
3-13 2-14 1-15 7-9 2-14 That's owner problems almost guaranteed. Georgia Frontierre passed away in 2008 after a year long struggle with cancer and the Rams became terrible almost immediately. Stan Kroenke bought the team in 2010 and hasn't had enough time yet to resurrect it. The question of whether he is capable of doing that or not is open. Hiring Jeff Fisher was good from a stabilizing point of view.
"We traded a gold turnstile for an aluminum turnstile" - funny comment on the Rams Board regarding the blockbuster Smith for WFH deal.
Tanny needs to do business with STL as often as possible :breakdance:while Schotty is still there. Greene for Jackson. Pace for Lauriniatis. Get it done Tanny.
great job by tanny the payment is not that big of a deal tho ... right or wrong, the rams think wayne hunter is a better player than jason smith the rams were going to have to pay $4 mill this year for smiths contract no matter what, just like we still have to pay hunters contract ... it makes sense that they had to pay the difference in contracts, especially considering that they initiated the deal
I'm suspicious of this trade, it seems to make no sense for the Rams. They initiated the trade after knowing how terrible Hunter is and they're paying the difference in salary. To me that must mean he's got to be as bad as Hunter, only we feel better because we haven't seen him play. Either that or his concussion issues are serious. One can only assume on the face of it must be a trade of Junk for Junk. A smarter move would have been to have saved the 2.45 mil and not have resigned Hunter and used the money towards a decent RT. Of course for that to happen we would need a better GM and a time machine.
The payment actually is a big deal. Cut down day is Friday and the Jets are 6MIL under the cap. Whatever isn't used this year rolls into next years cap which is tight right now. Tanny can also use that 6ML for waiver claims on cut down day to improve this years squad.
