BREAKING:Wayne Hunter Trade May Be On HoldAug 28th, 2012 at 6:03 pm by Alan SchechterJetsHome » Jets » BREAKING:Wayne Hunter Trade May Be On Hold It has been reported late this afternoon that the trade involving Wayne Hunter and Jason Smith was not reported to the league by the 4 PM ET deadline. GM Mike Tannenbaum apparently was late in arriving to brief the media today, and now we apparently have the reason. The trade isn’t guaranteed to be off, but now we unfortunately have to wait. And at the time of this post, Wayne Hunter is still officially a New York Jet. In other news, the Jets were awarded Spencer Lanning off of waivers. He was formerly property of the Cleveland Browns. The Jets made a claim and were awarded the player. Also, injured TE Josh Baker was able to clear waivers, so that means that he reverts back to the Jets, and will be on their IR list. We will keep you up to date with news on the Wayne Hunter situation as it becomes avaialble. Never a dull day in Florham Park.
Nooooooooo! Schotty likes Hunter for some reason. I guess he just enjoys watching QBs take a pounding from the rear. Hopefully the rams front office doesn't read this message board and notice how everyone hates Hunter and change their mind. Hopefully they haven't watched any tape last year besides vs Wake.
Both guys apparently needed a fresh start after wearing out their welcomes where they were. Maybe this will end well for both teams..
Smith signed a new contract with the Rams with a $1.55M signing bonus, and was then traded to the Jets. This means that the Jets & Rams swapped players with equal salaries, and StL ate the difference
Can the Jets than cut Smith, and get rid of his salary since the contract was renegotiated? I would definitely consider that.
if I understand this correctly. Smith is guaranteed the salary that the jets were going to pay Hunter the 2.45 million. So cutting him is pointless right now. Cutting him the day the season ends however is a virtual certainty.
sure, but the deal he has now has a 12 million dollar roster bonus. that is getting torn to shreds. No RT is worth 12 million, hell there are probably only 4-5 LT's making that much money per year.
right but if he plays well ( a big if obviously) i would think the FO would be willing to re-doing his deal and Smith knows he's not getting that 12M.
Ive never seen something like this before, The Rams actually paid the Jets to take Jason Smith from them.
Schottenheimer couldn't wait for WFH much longer, I assume. If anything, Rams initiated the contact to trade WFH.
