Season hasnt started yet. We now have two young guys fighting for the position and WFH is gone. Cant ask for much more. Its not an easy position to fill. Especially when not losing draft picks and high cap costs. This guy was the 2nd pick just 4 years ago.
Thats a mistake even Tanny will admit. At least he's trying to correct, but I think he just made another mistake by hurting our cap situation for 2013 (not 2012).
How did they hurt the 2013 cap situation? They can cut him or restructure before the 11.2 million dollar bonus hits. 2013 cap is a non issue here
I like the idea of rehabilitating former top draft picks Maybin-style - there must have been a good reason that he was the number #2 pick in the draft. We've brought in a guy 6 years WFH's junior who simply cannot be as bad.
The left over cap from 2012 will get rolled over to 2013. I wasn't even considering him to be on the roster in 2013. With Smith on board, we took a net cap hit of about $1.5 mil that could have been carried forward to 2013.
Carried forward? Lets worry about this year before we jump ahead to this year. Season hasnt even started yet.
I disagree, sorta. First, as horrible as Wayne was (is) he still has more experience than these two young bloods combined. Second, just because Smith was the 2nd overall pick doesn't mean he's going to all of a sudden play like it. So far in his career he hasn't played like a worthy #2 and is injury prone. The Jets essentially are HOPING that anybody will fill the RT spot with at least average play because they failed to address it.
Lol. His first concussion knocked him out for the season in his rookie year. Once you have a concussion, especially a high grade one, you're more prone to have them. But we'll see!
Its a shame they missed on eric winston but aside from him, who would you have looked at to fix our RT position?
Well, I would have started with the Draft. As for FA's Winston wouldn't have been a bad choice, along with Alex Barron. Doesn't matter, we are wayyyy to close to the season to be worrying about something that was neglected.
Its very unlikely that the Jets could have got someone in the draft capable of starting right away and being effective, Barron has just been released and the fact he has been cut suggests that he is not up to much (and tom cable is a very good OL coach so clearly knows what he is doing), there was next to nothing in FA this year aside from Winston (who I wish we had got). The point is that its been very difficult for the Jets to do anything about the RT position this off season - maybe they should have been thinking about this sooner but the fact is Hunter at one point was playing pretty well. Personally, I wish they had done more about the WR posirtion where there were a lot of good options for them to make to a move. Certainly Tanny hasnt covered himself in glory this year.
Well I think the big difference here is that not all lies are equal. Rex has stated quite often (and in his book) that he's not the kind of guy to rip players if he's unhappy with their performance. Instead he'll publicly offer support to the player with hopes that it maximizes whatever contributions he can get. === Now the sword does swing both ways and there is a minor consequence to Rex always giving the great endorsement to everyone in Jets uniform. Now whenever Rex hypes somebody up, most knowledgeable fans just don't take it seriously.
Rams & Jets basically swapped the disappointments on the OL & they're both hoping a change of scenery will make a difference. Can't blame the Jets on this one. WFH had basically spiraled into useless and had basically become dead money sitting on the roster. Not sure what was going on with Hunter but he just seemed to be getting worst every time he stepped on the field. Although I wanted Hunter gone, I'm not so sure this guy is the right replacement. Was hoping Jets would've waited till everyone made their Friday cuts & pick off that scrap heap.
but its very unlikely any of those teams would have wanted to take Hunter off our hands so we would be paying two players to play a back-up role.
They bungled that whole situation with Hunter so badly they had to get him out of here after the whole demotion thing. He couldn't stay here any longer. And they got something for him, so it works out. I say this is a good deal all around.
They already are up. Not in the spotlight like Schotty was or Hunter was after the Giants game, but the building blocks are there
For what it's worth, everyone was screaming we didn't take Mike Adams in the draft and he's looked pretty bad for the Steelers from all accounts.
And Riley Reiff. And David DeCastro. Hey, as long as Austin Howard is serviceable AND Quinton Coples winds up being a good player, we'll all be happy.
A change of scenery is probably best for both guys, it can't hurt. Wayne was not a good player but he was a good guy and readin about the nitwit fans yelling at him the other night. They give all good fans a bad name, I wish Wayne the best in SL.
