Sanchez int's were part of the plan. When Rex saw that Shotty couldn't move the ball, he had Sanchez through a pic so his DEFENSE could get some positive yards off pics. Brilliant!
hmy: Interesting take on the game. I'm sure the Jets coaching staff must be ripping apart the offense behind closed doors. 32-3 is not gonna get it done.
I hate to agree with such a negative take, but the offensive inconsistency is maddening. Then again, every offense that isn't the Patriots is having some problems with consistency. I said in an earlier thread that I thought it might take until Week 8 to really get the offense going. I'm probably gonna stick by that one.
Nah, it just proves how much more important exterior O-Linemen are than interior in the passing game.
Outside of the usual problems, it was a good win for the Jets. Defense really had a great game. Sanchez needs to continue the good throws. Once they got the 9 pts early, they got back to some sloppy plays. Jacksonville had nothing against the boys and that shmuck who said Revis is over-rated. I hope the next time these two side meet he will be playing. He needs to get smack upside the head. :jets:
Hopefully Mangold will be ok. Hunter sucks dick. When our OL starts playing better, it goes a long way
Truth be told, as happy as I am with the Jets win I am disappointed with key aspects of the offense much like you. I would call them areas of improvement. To reach the next level they have to be corrected. A) Our running game is still struggling and I have yet to see the holes that you need for a consistent ground and pound. B) Offensive calling - Is it me but we hardly ever call a screen pass, or a no huddle, or a reverse or anything to mix things up, keeping the defense guessing enough to give Sanchez a better shot. Are we going to get Mason and Cumberland involved more? Still every play has to come from Shotty often taking too much time and killing the momentum. C) OL still struggling not giving Sanchez the time he needs. D) Sanchez decision making on some throws at times is ill-advised causing unnecessary interceptions Enough said. D played light outs and so did special teams. Sanchez might not be perfect but he finds a way to win. D keeps making progress. I will sleep happy tonight
Congrats on the impressive win. I hope Mangold is OK. I never like seeing injuries. I think next week will be a tougher test for the Jets. OAK has a good defensive front 7 and their running game is very impressive.
you want Schotty to call a reverse? Plays like reverses are the reason Jets fans want Schotty fired, he runs them at odd times when the offense is clicking and it kills drives. Plus he ran one to cromartie today, and we ran a screen pass to LT for 32 yards last week and at least 2 today with greene. some of you (and the media really) are clamoring to get the ball to everybody all ready, but Sanchez only threw 24 passes yesterday, how is he going to get adequate targets to everybody? Think about exactly how many weapons we have on offense, Holmes, Plax, Keller, Mason, LT, Cumberland, then you have Greene, and Mcknight is going to start earning touches as well going forward. It's not like you can script it and say, OK we are going to divide 24 pass attempts equally amongst those 8 guys, and give each one 3 targets! you need to mix it up. When one guy is hot (as DK was yesterday) get the man the rock and let him do work. Next week, might be Plax's week for 100+ and 2 TD's, or maybe its Holmes week to go off and have 130 yards a 1 TD when oakland focuses on DK. It's easier to spread the ball evenly when you throw it 44 times like you did against Dallas. much harder with 24 attempts. Its a luxury, an amazing luxury, to have as many weapons as we do. Some weeks guys won't get the ball much, and the next week they may have huge games. If you saw Burress on SNY yesterday after the game, he doesn't seem to give 2 shits about not catching the ball yesterday, he saw DK was carving them up, so he was happy to take the double coverage and watch DK tear them a new asshole. Thats the type of attitude guys need to have. Yeah maybe they won't lead the league in receptions/yards/touchdowns, but they are going to spread it around, and are going to lead the league in wins instead.
Geez, those interceptions were terrible, but he'll get better as the season progresses. 2-0! :finssuck:
Good response. You make excellent points and perhaps my choice of plays were not ideal, but I still have the nagging feeling that the offense play calling seems to be out of rhythm a lot and not clicking smoothly. We insist on ruining at the gut of the D with no gain on first down, on third down throwing short of the first line marker. As for getting people involved, I was inferring to the ability to capitalize on Cumberland , Mason and McKnight strengths for first yardage not about the number of touches and catches at all. . Totally agree that we are blessed with an inordinate amount of weapons and not all of them can see significant touches in any one game, but with such talent you might expect a more aggressive play calling. Sorry if I sound negative which I'm not. Trying to look ahead to games against the likes of NE and the Ravens where we are going to need every one of them ready to roll.
