What on earth makes you think the coaching staff has ANY clue on how good Petty is? They are so clueless offensively and favor the vets to keep their jobs. I think the fact they haven't named Petty to start has ZERO to do with Petty and everything to do with selfish coaching. Why are you giving these guys the benefit of the doubt? Not one coach in the NFL really knows what they have in a QB until they play a few NFL games - not just practice. That's why the teams are so bad at drafting QBs, because it's largely an unknown. How can the fans be happy that they don't care about the future of the franchise. The only value to these games is to evaluate the young players now and see which guys to get rid of for packing it in. BUT, you have to let the kid play. Petty likes to sling it - LET HIM when he plays.

That's total BS. They have absolutely no clue on what they have. Until they play, they have no idea. Especially a defensive minded head coach and a much older offensive coordinator that use their talent poorly. Fitz misses so many throws each game that Petty can make once he gets in a game and get comfortable. We have receivers that can run well and Fitz always under throws them.

Great responses, Greensleeves, but you're wasting your time on those two clueless twits.

I'm not far behind you. I had thought I'd wait until the offseason, but much more of this lunacy, and I'll be done before the season is.

You can't seriously believe that Mac had no issues with the decision!!!! Mac has no control over Bowles. What's Mac supposed to say? What good would it do to publicly feud with Bowles about Fitz/Petty? Obviously, it's Bowles' decision and Woody is backing him. The only way that Mac would truly support Fitz starting is if Woody ordered it for appearances' sake or gave both Bowles and Mac an ultimatum before the season of having at least a .500 record.

Mac deserves better than working for that fucktard Woody and having to work with a freaking dumbass like Bowles. I hope he resigns before his career is ruined. If I were him, I would and I'd tell the world what clueless morons Woody and Bowles are and how my hands were tied with the Jets.

You can't seriously believe that Mac really signed off on starting Fitz!!!! You're smarter than that. If Mac did truly sign off on it, then he does deserve to be fired, but I don't believe it. Unless Ron Wolfe has gone senile or holds some kind of secret grudge against Woody or the Jets (maybe he does because of Brett Favre), I don't think he would ever have recommended Mac as GM if Mac is that stupid. I can believe Casserley being that stupid, but not Wolfe.

Our Org Chart is the worst in the league and its showing in the decision making paradigm.

No one can tell me they didn't see this coming? It doesn't matter to me any more in all honesty. I just don't enjoy watching this team any more. The product has suffered so bad, that it isn't even entertaining to watch. I, like most others I would imagine are just resigned to change if at all possible. What happened this season is just 100% UNACCEPTABLE...........

I'm praying Petty gets traded during the offseason. Nobody deserves to have their career derailed at such a critical time. Petty is 25? His window is closing and I hope he realizes his future is NOT WITH THE JETS. Too much working against him for it to work here. Mac wants Hackenberg. Bowles wants Fitz. Neither one of the shotcallers want Petty.

For those speculating that Fitz is coming back, I am very very concerned that this will happen.

I have been a Jets fan for almost 45 years.
My family were STH at Shea and gave them up when they moved to NJ.
I personally got season tickets at the Meadowlands in 1996, kept them even though I moved out of state in 2002 until Metlife was built.
I refused to buy a PSL and was not going to take Uppers that were higher than the last row of the old stadium.

I honest and truly think that if they bring Fitz back for another year that it will be the straw that broke the camels back and I will be done with this franchise for good.

i think you are over rating petty, cman. my guess is he gets cut during t.c and kicks around a few teams over the next couple of years before he is out of the league. no one is going to trade for him, he is not a commodity, he's a mid round, air raid qb with a live arm. this league will cycle through 15 more just like him in the next 2-3 years. we are just so desperate for an answer at qb we are elevating to level he most likely will never reach.
petty needed to make geno expendable this year and he couldn't, he needed to light up the rams and he didn't. he needs to make it so obvious in practice and its apparent he hasn't. its on petty to make himself wanted, he hasn't

of course, i am totally ok with being wrong and petty become the next ,manning/brady/favre/montana/marino etc...

Yes because Jets fans are smarter then NFL coaching staffs... You might belive you are but your not.The only people who want to see Petty play are Jets fans and his own mother. When Fitz was going through his contract bs why didnt members of the team come out in support of Bryce Petty being the starter? You can wish and dream of him being a franchise QB all you want it wont make him one.Him playing a meaningless game isnt gonna tell us anything....I wish Bowles would play him so I never have to hear his name again

Looking a bit closer, the players that were campaigning for Fitz were Marshall and Decker who incidentally, stood to benefit the most from Fitz coming back. It wouldn't surprise me if they are also the players that won't allow the Jets to audition any of their two rookie Qb's. Throw in Popeye Gailey and Petty stands no chance in the Jet organization.

I hope Bowles plays Fitz until he gets fired after next year so I won't have to deal with his stupidity, Gailey's incessant runs up the middle on first down, awful ST play and most of all, his cowardly "play it safe" football philosphy. If I were a young Qb and got drafted by this team, I'd go back to college.

Now that 2016 is shot, we don't need to look to the future. Lets just keep playing our underachieving vets and perhaps the worst QB in the NFL might start earning his money.

Just think, we now have the opportunity to fuck up our Draft position too! Yay!!

Based on todays decision, I am pretty sure Fitz will be on the roster next year, unless its a money issue. I think he is pragmatic enough to take less $$, and will be the pencilled in starter in spring training. Petty and Hack will be on the roster as well. One of those guys will need to clearly and consistently beat Fitz out in camp for a shot. Frankly if they cant beat him outright they aren't the answer anyway.

Watch Fitz play much better the rest of the way and they will decide to give the vets like Mangold one more bite of the apple.

Its very likely a mistake, but this fanbase is known to be impatient and the FO will want to establish some consistency and the owner will look real bad with 3 coaches in 4 years. It sucks, because I think Bowles is proving to be a bad coach, but thats the way things are looking right now.

Even though I knew it was coming, it was still something of a punch to the gut to actually see it in print.

I'm all for playing the guy who gives you the best chance to win, but at this point in the season, you've got to be looking ahead to the next season. It's not as though Fitzpatrick has been playing great at QB while the team around him has been bad. I could understand, to a degree, if that were the case. But Fitz has been one of the biggest reasons the team is 3-8 and headed to 3-13. If he gives us the best chance to win, then somebody really dropped the ball on the Petty and Hack picks, which I'm not convinced is the case since we saw flashes of competency from Petty in his one start.
