I personnaly know an NFL official and 3 weeks ago he told me that for the first time in his 12 year NFL career, the head of officiating called an "all-official" conference call with the subject being "cut the crap and get it right". I've got to bust his balls now and tell him that obviously they didn't get the hint. I am a high school football official and I typically side with the officials on a lot of calls. This year, though, I think they have been terrible. I almost jumped through my TV on the Ellis late it call.
They fucked up and so did the game clock operator. The game clock operator has the authority to stop the clock when the ball is dead on or behind the goal line. In this instance, the game clock operator could not determine where the ball was and so he waited for a signal from the officials.
