The Cowboys have to justify that both DEs they picked in the draft, Spears and Canty, are good players and not busts. They couldn't pay Coleman starter money to continue to sit on the bench.
The fact that his numbers even compare to Seymore is shocking. In part time duty?!? May have been the best under the radar signing this offseason...
A little off topic but a quick story. When Parcells first got here I went to a bunch of training camps before that 97 season. Whenever the team was working out in drills or calisthenics or whatever Douglas was always moping around in the back. I remember one time in particular the entire team was lined up stretching and Douglas was in the back just laying down with his eyes closed. Parcells walked up behind him and kicked him in the shoulder pads. You could tell he was not happy with his work ethic. I told my friend that day that Hugh's days with the Jets were numbered. I thought they would have moved him that year but I guess he didn't yet have a hold the fort guy. So I agree that Douglas did not adequately fit the scheme, but he was also not the hard working type that Parcells likes. Makes you wonder about Vilma. He also clearly does not fit the scheme, but it seems you should always have room on your team for hard working, team oriented players...
Good point, and something I did not know about Douglas. Hehe, I'm sure champ would hate the ominous comparisons, though.
Jets | Coleman could replace von Oelhoffen Wed, 14 Mar 2007 21:56:17 -0700 Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reporting for the Sporting News, reports New York Jets DL Kenyon Coleman is the leading candidate to replace aging DL Kimo von Oelhoffen, who's better suited to a backup role.
Rich Cimini = Captain Obvious Could replace Kimo? How about he better replace him? With the money we just paid to him, I can't see him not beating out Father Time at DE.
Lol must be a slow day for Cimini. We absolutely have our starter in Coleman, and I'm actually uncomfortable with Kimo being our no.2...I hope we sign another guy on the dline because Kimo was a huge problem last year....and I didn't hear about him playing through injuries n such so he just flat out underachieved. As it stands now...it's most def'n a need that needs addressing on Day 1 of the draft.
