great. so now i have to agree with everything our front offices does, otherwise im just an arrogant person who bitches around
The FO hasn't done anything in this case. There is a report that they are pursuing Coleman and we are discussing his value. Unfortunately, you have provided nothing to this conversation. If you think he is garbage please provide some insight on your thought process. You have made some very intelligent posts in the past so I know it is possible....
Not AT ALL. We all have disagreed with FO moves...That's legit... But with, you just try and be this smartass and talk very sarcastic to people filled with thex20. If they have a different opinion than you. Of course their is going to be debates on here, it would be boring if their wasn't...I just don't like your attitude towards people if you disagree with them...Whether it's this, Robertson, Asante Samuel, whatever...Every answer you give back to someone is very sarcastic and you act as if you're better than them. Just from my view of course...
I think one of Coleman's main weakness is his playing strength caused by getting horrible leverage through poor technique. I actually think he's got starting potential, but I also think I'm being overly optimistic. It's not like he recieved bad coaching with the Cowboys...
But DaBallhawk, certainly when you post something like this, you expect a few digs, don't you? Please tell me you don't post this kind of statement without expecting some kind of reaction.
well i joined this board because of rhodes (right after the draft), i was there the whole time to support him. its not like i converted to "rhodes'ism" after his fantastic 06 season. i even said that hes going to make the pro bowl when training camp (05) started and he really shouldve made it. but im pretty sure somebody is going to call me arrogant once again for saying that i really thought we would bring in adalius thomas or somebody like that. and to see guys like kenyon coleman get picked up by up by our front office is a little...frustrating. while the patriots bring in impact players on BOTH sides of the ball that will help them win games, we pick up trash. i really liked the jones trade but we need a guy like that (proven starter/pro bowler) on defense as well.
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=483463&postcount=64 ? Hey that was a bold prediction and you should of been right, Lynch or Polamalu shouldn't of got it over Rhodes...The way Rhodes learned under Mangini, pretty surprising and you saw something in Rhodes that most of us didn't and made a bold prediction and a damn good one...
well i wouldnt call him garbage per se. he could be a solid backup/pass rusher for us but i was comparing him to adalius thomas. i dont know his role on this team, i dont think he's going to be an impact player for us, or even a solid starter. if they brought him in to add depth, fine. but i think we need a little more than just depth to beat the patriots, to make the playoffs. especially after looking at what type of players they just brought in (thomas, welker, and they will probably add another 1-2 impact players). right now the best FA OLB is banta cain and i dont even want him because hes not really an upgrade over barton or hobson. so right now it looks like we will have the same starting LB corps in 07 if they dont decide to trade vilma
I have always been more of a reader than a poster, and have read many of your thoughts, ideas, and remarks. just like many on this board including me, you have come across both intelegent and an ass at times. Just rembember, these so called "trash" signings havent even happened yet. We are LOOKING at him, we have not signed him yet. If we do it will be for a reasonable amount and have a ton of upside to our investment. If he does not work out we will not strap ourselves. Who knows untill its official but these are they kind of signings you will see the FO make. It stresses coaching and reaching the potential.
yeah that was pretty retarded. i thought we traded our 2nd round pick away straight up for jones. sorry about that. thanks
true. i'd be cool with it if they decided to add depth to our lb corps. i just hope its not plan B after failing to get adalius thomas
coleman is a guy the cowboys actually want to re-sign...therefore not trash while he may not be a stud or even a good starter right now he still has potential and is great depth considering his age/size...at a position we have a hole at
does coleman have the speed to play DE in the 4-3?...it seems he's only been on 3-4 teams and would be more of a DT b/c of size...but i dont know thats why i ask...this is why carricker is such a beast this is the only reason why i dont mind if we sign bowens...a guy who can play DE/OLB...b/c we really only have ellis/thomas as a 4-3 DE right now w/ our hybrid defense
I hear your concerns. But I find it very interesting that the Ravens didn't try to re-sign Adalius Thomas. I can't speak for their current cap position, so maybe it was a straight out issue of not having cap space. But if it wasn't, why would the team that had him as their player for 5-6 years decide vs. signing him when he's entering his prime? What do they know that we don't know, the Pats don't know, the Jets don't know? I mean, if the hot trend these days is to re-sign your own players first to keep them off the market, why didn't they do that in this case. This isn't to say Thomas isn't a good player and that he wouldn't have been a good addition to the team, but the Ravens haven't been scared off to franchise their players in the past (Chris McAllister, for one.) Maybe his effectiveness was more an issue of the scheme, and they think he's replaceable. I don't know. One other point: B. Thomas and V. Hobson had much improved performances in 2006 under this new scheme. Maybe there's room for more improvement for those two guys, or the potential that new recruits can benefit from Mangini's system in a similar manner.
Take a deep breath and say this one little word: DEPTH For the 1 billionth time Mangini Said the Jets will be building via the draft.
Back-up to who, Kimo Von "Old" Hoffen? Dallas had a pretty good set of starting 3-4 DEs in Canty and Spears. It's understandable why would have trouble cracking the starting line-up there. We, on the otherhand, only have one good DE, that's Ellis. Coleman could and should start over Kimo even if he had 1 leg and 1 arm. That's not even taking into account the fact that he managed 31 tackles and 4 sacks last year. 3-4 DEs don't get to many opportunities to make plays in the 1st place ask Richard Seymour. They're mainly there to do the dirty work while the LBs get the glory. For him to get 4 sacks as a back-up 3-4 DE is impressive. You are definately talking out of your rear end when make statements like, "he could be a solid backup/pass rusher for us but i was comparing him to adalius thomas. i dont know his role on this team, i dont think he's going to be an impact player for us, or even a solid starter". We can't have superstars at every position, this guy we'll be a definate upgrade over Kimo. Another thing that you and many like you don't realize is that there aren't too many 3-4 DEs out there. Also, it's a very hard sell trying to convince a FA 4-3 DE w/ the size to play in a 3-4 scheme to come play for you. You basically telling a guy that we will move you from the outside where you had mostly 1 on 1 and many chances to make plays to inside where you pretty much are doubled and have to hold your ground so that other people make plays. This is why most 3-4 DEs continue to resurface on new teams playing the same scheme. Guys like Kimo and Bobby Hamilton would not still be in the NFL if it wasn't for the fact that they had experience in the 3-4. This is also why a guy like Carriker is so coveted. 3-4 DEs don't go on tree like many of you fools think.
bowens will be a situational pass rush OLB. if we sign him coleman on the other hand has potential to be our starting 3-4 DE. the guy had 31 tackles and 4 sacks as a backup. plus ive watched at least 12 of the cowboys games this year and he has stood out to me at times. this would be a tremendous signing. and just to let you know, one of my best friends is a cowboys fan and he wasnt too happy to find out we might take coleman.
Let's hope they get this thing done, as well as signing Bowens. Adding those two to our front seven goes a very long way to improving ourselves in that area.
