Yeah OK so his stats look like shit. Did you watch either Miami game? Do I need stats for you? 2 games that KC could never have played as well. Is Sanchez regressing? Maybe. Is he being asked to do a lot? Definitely. Perhaps even more than Flacco or Ryan. And lets face it, the rest of the team has been less than stellar regardless of stats. You can ignore the ST meltdown. You can ignore the D's inability to stuff a drive when it counts. You can ignore shitty play calling, but somehow you can't ignore ROOKIE MISTAKES. What would be your solution Coach?
that's my biggest problem with him. Nothing is high percentage. Its goes against everything that Rex wants. How can you have an OC who disagrees with you philosophically? Usually it leads to dismissal.
I would never have said this at the time, because I thought Stuckey was really subpar in his overall performance, but Sanchez year went straight downhill after Stuckey got traded. Getting Edwards just reinforced the bad habits that Sanchez already had (forcing the ball downfield mainly), and deprived him of one of his few checkdown options.
The Edwards trade on value makes sense, however Stuckey out of the slot or in the 2 hole was actually a pretty good route runner and had worked with Sanchez in the preseason and they had a little chemistry. Leon going down took the the screen pass, the rb in the flat an entire package of safe potential break out plays right out of the playbook. They were replaced with Edwards and boom or bust WR with a rookie QB.
The the focus moves to Tanny, and that disgusting "win now" phrase that I wish would die out. If a talented slot receiver is not found next year and Leon doesn't come back, they'll kill this kids development. I've seen TJ go to the middle of the field for the check down and catch it for 4+ yards. I just don't see it enough. I'd also like to see more slant routes. I'm a stickler for slant routes.
You can't blame Tanny for Leon breaking his leg. We may well have been better hanging onto Stuckey, Trunsik and the draft pick.
It was never about this season, it never is when you start a rookie QB. Stuckey is a JAG and can be replaced by just about any WR in the league in the offseason. Edwards is the best thing that has happened to Sanchez future development. Maybe it hasn't helped him this season(maybe) but it certainly will in the future.
That is nonsense, if he wasn't here Sanchez would be forcing balls to Cotchery. It is never a bad thing for a rookie QB to have extremely talented WRs. Sanchez just needs to learn to stop forcing balls. Cmon, Winston you are too smart to really think that this season would be any different if Chansi Stuckey was still here, who BTW was not very good in his four games starting for the Jets.
That goes towards my point, in the second Miami game because of certain situation they had to throw the 3 n out gameplan out the Window and let the kid just pass the ball. Which he did very well, leading us down the field for a TD with 5 to go and then right back down the field again. When Schotty gets his greasy mitts on the him he takes him away from his game. Just like many other QB's how can you get into any kind of rhythm throwing 12 times a game. If he is our future let him air it out now instead of this kid glove crap. I think that's why the regression seems odd, he was not shackled in the first 4 games throwing almost 30 a game and after NO Schotty panicked and a month later the whole Jets CS panicked. We can still be a run first team but we also need to let Sanchez grow, I could go in there and throw 12 passes a game. If that was our plan for mark from the beginning they wouldn't need to draft a Franchise QB.
Schotty started the trend and Rex ran with it. Even against Oakland he only threw it 15 times for 143 yards. Rex inserted the colors after the second NE game.
Stuckey had 11 catches in four games with Sanchez. His best game was his first one. I don't think he was a major factor in the Jet attack with less than three catches per game. (In ten subsequent games with the Browns he only has 18 more catches, btw.) He averaged @11 ypc. Leon of course has not been replaced in terms of the passing game, but we do have some analysis to work with as far as how much of a contributor he was in the passing game (of course Leon was a contributor in other areas as well, but if the question is how does his availability help Sanchez in the passing game, these numbers will be helpful). Leon played six full games and had a total of 15 receptions, or 2.5 per game. In two games he only had one catch. He also averaged 8.7 a catch. Edwards has been with the Jets for 10 games. He has 31 catches, more per game than Stuckey, and for better average at over 16 ypc. His total of nearly 500 yards leads to a per game average of 50 yds, which is almost exactly the TOTAL per game passing yardage of Stuckey and Leon combined. Stuckey also had 1 TD, while Leon had none off the passing game, while Edwards has had 4 TD's. So, in terms of the overall yardage, Edwards replaced both Stuckey and Leon and improved the TD rate. This leaves (concededly) your dumpoff point. Of course all other things being equal it is better to have an RB to dump off to. But I think you overstate the importance of it. First of all Sanchez had three very good games after Leon went down, and the Jets lost the final three games before he went down. The overall record with and without Leon is both .500. Sanchez also had two of his worst games with Leon still in the lineup. But beyond that to argue that Sanchez's problems are PRIMARILY attributable to Leon's absence is not persuasive. A factor, perhaps, but not that significant. Having a dumpoff option taken off the table does not force the Qb to throw downfield into double or triple coverage.
I never ignored those factors. That's a straw man argument. But it is also unrealistic to expect perfection in all other areas of a team's performance to squeak by when your Qb is turning the ball over at an alarming rate. How is Sanchez being asked to do too much?!? Is asking him to stop turning the ball over at double the average rate of int's seem like too much? If by too much you mean carrying the team with your arm, Sanchez has thrown an average of 25.3 times a game. Ryan has thrown it 31.8 and Flacco 32.5. The "rest of the team has been less than stellar"?!? This is what i mean by throwing the rest of the team under the bus. This team is leading the league in D, with fewest points alllowed, has the top rushing game, and yet is at .500. It seems like what is less than stellar, a lot less than stellar, is the one factor you want least to talk about.
Did the D screw the coverage last week? Did the No. 1 rushing attack suck last week? Did special teams outright suck last week. Did the points we got last week come off one of the most beautiful deep balls you ever saw a Jets QB every throw last week?
This post is incorrect. Sanchez played poorly in NO before Stuckey was traded, and had several good games after he left. Straight downhill? Uh, not really.
How many D's give up no plays in a whole game? They gave up only ten points, which is btw nearly 6 below their league leading fewest points allowed average. You give up only ten points, and nine times out of ten you win in the NFL. Atlanta played as much as nine in the box. ST played poorly, but even if they converted all those plays the Jets would have only scored 16 points. The throw to Edwards was great. Of course if that was Stuckey it would have probably been incomplete.
The Oakland game came after three straight losses - why do you think they threw it less often? To cut down on his interceptions, that's why. He had FIVE the game before that. Was that Rex's fault too? Actually I would say it was. He should have probably benched him after the second int. Okay, the third one.
Sanchez problems are primarily do to the fact that he's a rookie and his number 1 WR is not 100%, his number 1 threat out of the backfield and the only running back on the team who can catch the ball in traffic and do anything with it is gone and he's one big target is a high risk high reward player. The other thing that's happened of course is Rex has basically decided to run the ball and pass on high risk passing downs. You want to use the big Stats of Edwards YPC to discount my point but those big YPC come with a huge upside risk.
The first Miami loss he played great, no picks 172 yards and 1 td. Against the Bills well yeah that sucked major ass. That was a just a really bad game. Then came Oakland. I'm just saying give the kid a chance before you write him off, he' still only played 13 Pro games and has showed glimpses of greatness. Yes I know he's showed some shit too but he has plenty of time to improve and with Rex around this defense will be solid for many years. Do you think we should just scrap him now or something? What is your angle here? Is it just to show other Jet fans that you dislike Sanchize?
