I think people are missing the point... this is the AR/Hackett offense. They're doing what they did in GB. Is it a coincidence that GW & Breece are looking pedestrian? Adapting to players' strengths, is not a hallmark of Saleh (or Hackett) teams. In Hackett's case, his offense is one player, & everything else is focused on his strengths. The blocking scheme, in Breece's case, isn't working for him. But they keep doing it, with little success, & no adjustments. With GW, nothing related to his skillset. Any WR can do his role in this offense. They're messing with his game, to fit their offense, rather than adjusting their offense to his unique gifts. GW had impressive years, with sub-par QBing. Now with a decent, experienced QB, he's having trouble?? It's the CS, starting with the HC, that have no football smarts/instincts, creativity, nor have any desire to instill discipline in their players (see penalties). .
And your point? Are Allen & Breece's skillsets similar? The blocking scheme, & play called, needs to fit the players' strengths. Same with GW... it's how the players are used. .
GW will be a great #2 option. We need a guy that can create space and can produce even when the defense is keyed on stopping him. He's not in the class of an elite WR yet. Under Hackett, that might not ever happen.
GW had success because Defenses were stacking 8 in the box with a single high safety and GW in single covg. Obviously he was ZW’s main target, so he got a lot of 1x1 shots and when plays broke down post route he was catching things via improvisation. This year the defenses are playing a more balanced style, and they’re rolling covg to GW. This requires GW to recognize the D presnap and adjust his routes, and he’s failing at times to understand what he needs to do. But as much as he’s great contorting his body to make catches, he’s also a little wild at times with his body and not good at the fine details of being a truly elite receiver. He will be great, I believe that. But unfortunately I think this season is the lesson of an ego check that he’s gonna need to actually reach his greatness.
He's looking like a little kid out there with those big sleeves on a 180 lb. frame. Looks are one thing, but he better not start acting like a little kid when things don't go his way. GW is starting to give me Sauce vibes, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
