I guess Petty will get a large amount of PT tonite. It is gonna be ugly. Hope his ego can take it.

How on earth would you know that? He may be playing against 5th stringers.

He may do better than anyone expects..... We all have to remember Gailey runs an offense that fits what Petty does well......

Petty has a long way to go.......Hopefully we see some kind of improvement by the last preseason game because he is lightyears away at this point

I liked seeing him taking snaps from center and he had a handful of nice crisp passes.

Couple of drops but he clearly missed a few passes.

Not a bad first effort for taking 3rd string snaps all camp.

I'd expect a bit better showing next week.

Yeah, I was hoping for a bit more but I liked that he made good reads and didnt loft any under pressure or make any stupid throws. Something to build on and as the game slows down for him he will show more touch on his throws and be more effective.

They didn't do Petty any favors.

When he came in all five starters on OL went out leaving a patchwork line including the likes of Winters, etc.

They also took out Marshall, Decker, and Ivory.

All things considered he could have done worse.

Petty calmed himself down and did OK playing with the scrubs. His throws were on a rope and that in itself is huge for a Jet QB. He's got good size to him so he doesn't appear to be brittle. Playing behind the Jet OLine, being sturdy is a must. The Kid didn't embarrass himself out there which shows me he's got moxie. Looked fairly comfortable in the huddle and moving players around.

He's gonna need more work on his handoffs and such but for somebody in his first ever pro game, he did OK. Enough certainly to merit another look next week.

Mariota already has 1 int and 1 lost fumble in the first quarter, so all those knocking Petty need to put it in perspective.

tough outing for Mariota last night. 2 turnovers in the first quarter including an interception on a screen pass. Mariota is accurate as fuck though.

I thought Bryce physically looked the part of an NFL quarterback and he was making some pretty decent throws. Everything that we saw wrong is what we expected going into this year. Not worried about him in the slightest unless somehow he ends up on the field for a regular season game.

Hey, he could've been worse. Our Lord and Savior Matt Simms went 0–3 with an interception for the bills last night.

Petty looked very "who? what? where?" for most of the game. He's got a ways to go before he will be an asset for the Jets. It's absolutely the right thing to do to give him extended playing time in the pre-season. He won't get a lot of first team reps in practice because Fitzpatrick needs those to get ready for the season. Putting him on the field in the games with live contact is the way to go because it gives him the reps he won't get elsewhere and it gives the Jets the best chance of having Fitzpatrick enter the season healthy.

If Fitzpatrick goes down right now we're going 3-13 if we're lucky.

If the defense plays like it did Thursday we're going 3-13 anyway.

Yeah, last year has absolutely nothing to do with this year. Different coaches, different FO, different everything. End result will be different too.

Mark Sanchez certainly should have sat on the bench for his first year in the NFL. He only started 1 year at USC and then immediately started in the NFL.

Pete Caroll (USC's coach at the time) said Mark should not have declared for the draft, and like you said many former NFL HC's and the scouts of the day and whatnot were saying he needed to sit on the bench for a year at the NFL level. Still, he'd been given a huge contract and I think the fans expected him to start. For Mark to have succeeded, I think the Jets also would have had to have drafted better.

It would have helped if he had a better OC and HC too. He got a rookie HC that knew NOTHING about offense or working with QBs. He got one of the worst OCs in the game, and a QB coach that hadn't developed a single QB and was not a very good QB himself. He had a good OL, but sketchy receivers for much of his time here, and was totally mishandled and jerked around by the CS. He may never have developed into a quality starter, but we'll never know.

Crazy thing is we might see Petty sooner rather than later.. Fitz coming off a broken leg and Geno off a shattered jaw.. If I was Bowles I'd be giving Fitz 1 qtr per pre season game and 3 to Petty to give him some live reps.

I keep the 1st team WRs and OL till half to give him some reps with the ones.

I don't want rush Petty but we might be forced to use him with our other 2 QBs coming of broken bones....

Preseason is one thing, but he absolutely should not see the field during the regular season unless the light suddenly goes on and he starts killing it out there. If Fitz's health is in question, they need to bring in a vet short term.

Whether Sanchez was ready or not--I'm not taking Pete Carroll's word for it. He was looking down the barrel at the death penalty for his football program, he had a championship caliber team and no other viable QB candidate other than Mark. He was taking one last run at an NCAA Championship before he bailed on USC before the sanctions hit.

That was a completely self-serving comment by him. He wan't looking out for Sanchez's welfare, he was looking out for his own skin.
