It's tough because I'm of the mindset that Lawrence is a much better prospect than Fields but I still feel like we have to take Fields if we end up with the #2 pick. That's just kind of how it is with QB's in the modern NFL, you keep taking the best ones you can until you find a good guy. It's tough and most of them bust but that's just the nature of the game currently.

This team sucks so bad across the board, that if it's not Lawrence, trade down for as many picks as they can get

And make another run at things with Darnold? I don't think he's good enough to continue with. He's been a bottom 5 QB every year he's been in the NFL. Even if we surround him with monsters and a better coach what's his ceiling? League average QB? It's not good enough.

While the entire NFL world was raging over Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes was sitting there quietly at #10.

And this year while the NFL world is raging over Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, I wonder where the next Mahomes is sitting.

I like Sam, but sadly his time here is done, so no...... How about build a real team, so they dont burn down another prospect. It's not like they wont be picking high again next season... sadly enough... maybe pick up an extra first or so, and maybe even take the BYU kid at the end of the 1st.

Other than when we won the SB, these will be the most consequential 5 games in Jets' history. There have been other wins in the past that cost us the opportunity to draft some great players that we sorely needed. Hopefully, this time is the charm. We need to get this right, even if it means starting Q. Williams at QB.

U must be a real youngie since the most important games the NYJs EVER played was 1968 when we beat the Raiders & then the Colts to win SB3:)

Look at the list of potential FA QBs. You may change your mind once you see that list. Darnold is toast here. If there is any chance of rehabilitating him, it will be elsewhere, not here. There's no way the Jets could roll with Darnold as starter next year unless they were planning on tanking.

ROFLMAO!!!! Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, is it? Read what I said and you quoted again S-L-O-W-L-Y, and focus on just the first 6 words. I've also said myriad times that I've been watching the Jets since '65 when Namath was drafted, and in another post today said that I have been watching the NFL for 57 years (I watched the Packers before the Jets took Namath).

Not to quibble, but these next 5 games will only be the most consequential IF, and only IF, they get the #1 pick and draft Lawrence, AND Lawrence turns out to be as great as many predict. Without all that, the next 5 games will just be a darker, more indelible stain on the history of this franchise.

I disagree. They could be the most consequential regardless of what happens. We could win a game, Lawrence gets drafted by Jacksonville, he goes on to a HOF career and Jacksonville wins several SBs, and we continue looking for a QB and struggling. Also, Jacksoville could get Lawrence and he has a great career, but maybe we wind up with Fields or Wilson and he has a better career than Lawrence, and we win several SBs. In addition, having the 2nd or 3rd pick in each round could cost us players that we would have been able to get with the 1st pick in those rounds. These games will have dramatic consequences one way or the other. They could easily wind up making or breaking Douglas' career. If we miss on Lawrence, and take Fields, Wilson or Lance, and he proves to be only marginally better than Sam, Douglas could build a great team but we wind up being unable to go deep in the playoffs because we don't have a good enough QB.

    and

Yes. I'm 66. I was 10 when the Jets drafted Namath, but turned 11 before the season started.
