2005 was just a blowout due to injuries early on and then to Herm Edwards failure to coach later on after the dust had settled. I thought the Jets were very over-rated that year and expected them to be in the 7 to 9 win range, so while it was ugly all it really made me do was to get DirectTV so that I didn't get ragged by the Pats fans at the sports bar in New London, where I lived at the time. This season I again thought the Jets might win 7 to 9 games however there are no injuries to blame the collapse on. That makes it a much lower point for me. Also I was ready to see Herm go in 2005. I'm not ready to see Mangini go yet, however I'm pretty sure that's what is going to happen at the rate we are going.
Your 100% Wrong in 2005 we were horrible because we lost our starting QB our backup QB our key linemen and our runningback thats why we sucked we had a very good excuse this year where 100% healthy , justin miller is out 4 the year but look what leon has done in his place , better play then miller anyway , this year we just are plain...bad.
We will be lucky to win another game this year --- we just plain suck. This year will go down as the worst in Jets history !!!! (worse than the Kotite era)
It's worse now b/c we are healthy. There were reasons the '05 team stunk and it had to do w/ lack of health.
It was worse in 2005 because we weren't even competitive in games. This year's team could easily be 5-1 - all it would have taken was one big catch in Baltimore and we could have ridden that momentum to this stage. Yes, there are problems that need addressing, but we're not a million miles away. We were a million miles away in 2005 with no visible plan for the future other than to hope everyone got healthy and were better than before they got hurt.
e knew once we got healthy agai we'd have a chance to beood but eeing a healthy team ply so poorly is ALOT worse than seing an injury ravaged team play poorly and we were competitive in alot of games in 2005. We lost to jax in OT(chrebet dropped TD pass much like McCareins at Bal or Coles the last 2 weeks), by 5 to SD(inside the opp 5 in final minutes much like yesterday), by 2 to NO, by 4 at Miami and we had a few other lopsided scores that were close in the 4th but we got blown out late. This is ALOT worse than 2005.
We haven't adequately replaced the starting QB who was hurt and hasn't adequately recovered to be a full time NFL starter, we are bringing along a young QB to replace him who the coach doesn't feel is ready yet. We haven't recovered from letting our starting TE, RT, and DT walk without a contract offer. We have replaced an ageing LT who was shot in 05 along with an all pro center who we had to trade our best defensive player for because he wasn't resigned and didn't want to be here. We have replaced our running back with a good but not great one. We replaced Law with a rookie who looks like he will be excellent. This team is not far away from being as good or better than the 04 team but we had a ton of parts to replace and we are feeling the pain of that this year. The fact is this team was destroyed at the end of 04 and suffered the loss of our QB in 05 because of it. They tried to stop gap the issue by signing Ramsey but he turned out to be incapable. With a good QB this team is likely 3 and 2 this year and still in the hunt. Rebuilding is painful and this year we are feeling the pain. The 05 team was the result of a collapse in talent, bad coaching and a team unprepared to start the season leading to injury and the end of a lot of players who were close to done anyway.
