You replace 10 1/2 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, and 10 ints through good drafting and good coaching. We already have Justin Miller ready to go at CB in place of Ty Law (we draft players for a reason) and if the Jets FO feels it is really necessary to get similar Abe production then they can draft Mario Williams at #4 overall. The option will be there for them.

We've already replaced all of Ty Law's penalties and John Abraham's unreliability, which is a good thing.

yeah Ty Law and John Abraham were the problem. They were are best two players on defense last year. I am not sure if I watched the same team as a lot of you. Our defense coundn't get off the field last year. They were awful. The defense stayed relatively injury free other than Barton and the defense still was very bad. This defense was not even close to the defense from the year before. We need major help on that side of the ball also

In summary, we only need a franchise WR,RB,QB,Tackle, pash rusher, and CB and then we can contend again.
Oh that's right we need a player at every important position.

I never said Ty Law and John Abraham were the problem, I just pointed out some positives with them leaving. The problems I pointed out were very serious problems and if you can't see that then you're in denial.

Our defense was struggling to get off the field last year because they were worn out. The offense couldn't stay on the field and it caused the defense to breakdown. This turned into 40 minute marathons for the defense. No defense is going to excel under those conditions, no matter how talented they were. If you want to point to a lot of mistakes that were made by the defense that kept them on the field, how about all of the defensive holding penalties committed by Ty Law on plays that would've sent the opposing offense into fourth down!?

The defense didn't stay relatively injury free. Barton was gone the whole year, and Ellis and Robertson both didn't suit up after week 9. Robertson and Ellis were a huge part of our defense, and their absence visibly hurt the team.

Again, the defense wasn't as good as the year before because of the FA loss of Ferguson, combined with injuries to Barton, Robertson, Ellis, and the fact that the offense couldn't put together a drive longer than 3 plays and a punt. 40 minutes a game on average is disgusting for any defense. AND on top of all of this, they finished 12th in the league in total defense. 12TH!!!! That means they were still better than 20 teams!

The point is, we have a good defense, and along with good coaching, Abraham and Law will be replaced, and life will move on.

Ellis played until like week 14 he just was invisible. and Robertson the same thing. We were definately not the 12th best defense last year. There were games that the defense just looked awful. It is not so easy to just replace one of the best pash rushers in the NFL. right now we have no pash rush.

Ellis did not play weeks 11 and 14 through 17.
Robertson did not play weeks 9 and 15 through 17.

Granted they both played most of the season, but they both played after weeks 11 and 9 respectively hurt.

There were games where the defense looked awful, but doesn't any defense in the NFL look awful at times? This is the NFL. It's not like every team is solid every game and the "same ol Jets" just suck all the time. Not the case. If you watched other NFL teams you would realize the Jets have a pretty damn good defense and it isn't just because Abraham or Law were out there. The defense was coached well, and received contributions from many of its players. The defense did finish 12 in total defense last year, and those are hard stats. If you wish to argue with www.nfl.com go right ahead.

Further, by the moves that have been made by our FO so far this offseason, it is easy to see that the Jets are shifting away from a 4-3 and to a 3-4. What this means is that the FO has more faith in the linebackers then it does the 3-4. In this new scheme, most of the pass rush is going to come from the linebackers, NOT the defensive linemen. So you can't really say whether there will be a pass rush or not. That has yet to be seen. I'm confident in our guys, being that they are fast and tough. Hobson, Vilma, and Barton are a great bunch, which many people underrate dramatically.

The whole culture of the Jets locker room is going to be changed. No more me first crap, (personified in Law and Abraham). The coaches are in charge now, not the players (Mawae). I like this new attitude. The team in general has nowhere to go at this point but up.
