Here is my whole conflict with the Rex Ryan Is A Player's Coach conundrum... I think the idea that he is a player's coach has been largely a creation by the media, designed by Rex himself. We know who his father is. A strict disciplinarian who started his adult life as a newly made Master Sergeant on infantry lines in Korea, punching soldiers in the face when they started going yellow. Rex learned football from this man. How can I reasonably believe that he is soft on his troops? He knows leadership, but I think he needs to learn more about choosing leaders as coaches and as players. Something Parcells was amazing at. Rex is another rookie HC, third we have had since Parcells/Groh, but easily the best of the lot. This is coming from someone that wanted to clean house when Mangini was fired. Rex has more to him than he allows us to see in his pressers. I just hope Woody allows him to develop it.
he really needs to step up his involvement on offense. yesterday was a day that the head coach needed to step in and stop all the throwing, and even take over the play calling if necessary. sanchez is not a manning type qb that can take the team on his shoulders. why rex allowed it is a problem! he really needs to step up in the overall coaching and not just the defense.
You know what. After all this letdown, I am actually very optimistic for the Jets to still make the playoffs. This scenario is very possible and the Jets just might sneak their way into the playoffs yet again. Heck, at this point just making the playoffs is good enough for me.
no way is rex gone..like he said we will win the super bowl this year...oh wait we wont even make the playoffs
This town/fanbase would be outraged if rex got fired and he would have a job in less time then it takes for him to finish a pizza while getting a footjob from the lady
I cant tell if this is a joke thread or serious. No, Rex will not be gone (nor should he be gone) if we lose to the Phins.
rex is perfect for this team..all talk and no substance...we need more players like bart scott and santonio...loved holmes penalty after scoring againt the eagles..this team has become a joke around the league and its headed up by mr foot fetsih himself.
A competition will happen regardless if Schotty goes. The new OC is going to want his guy to play. He isn't going to anoint Sanchez because he was picked 5th, or he is the incumbent, or that he was the signal caller during our defensive/run game wins in the playoffs.
not everybody subscribes to your Joe Benigno "31 teams are LOSERS every year" theory, thank God... There are actually rational Jet fans who understand that we have a very good Head Coach that we should be really happy we have as Head Coach of the NYJ
This was a transition year. Accept it for what is is. The team and media can tell us differently any way they want. But when you have as many moving parts this past off season as the team had, there are going to be short term consequences. Jets have a talented roster. A roster filled with up and coming players that are still learning how to be pro's. When young players are in this stage, they tend to struggle with consistency. If there was 1 word for the New York Jets in 2011 it would be inconsistency. You see my point. Now, this fact isn't to say the jets don't have holes to fill. They need help in the middle of the D in the worst of ways. It's time to bring in another athlete or 2 b/c anytime they play a team built on speed, it is a match-up nightmare. Right Tackle & O-line depth need to be figured out(I still believe Ducasse is going to surprise alot of people). And lastly the team needs a true deep threat. With ample cap space, an above average free agency class on the horizon, and a good # of draft picks, those holes can easily be filled. Other than Schottenheimer, whose offensive philosophies do not mesh with the team's talent or head coach's philosophy, Stay the course with this group.
The reality, FOR THE JETS, is that we should have high expectations Its been 42 years and a VLT must be number one priority Our head coach thinks that, and many in the fan base do Are you satisfied at 8-8 or 9-7 this year and (probably) no play-offs in light of the past two years? Of course not. But, I agree that Rex is a good coach He is good enough, so that if you got rid of him now, it would set us back considerably. No question he stays.
I am very satisfied with Rex so far... two Conference championship games in two years. Yes, this season is apparently not going to end up at the same high level, but even if we finish up 9-7 and miss the postseason, it is far from a failure The drafts of 2006 to present have provided a nucleus of really good players -- Brick, Nick, Revis, Harris, Sanchez, Greene, Keller, etc... that will ALL still be there next year to hopefully get things back on track with a NEW offensive coordinator with good sense and less trickery, wildcrap and calling for 59 passes in a game where the running game was actually successful when used.... So NO to the mass firings recommended by the morons on sports talk radio, thank you
Rex stays but expect major coaching overhauls this offseason mainly the OC. Rex needs to open up his horizons and start some offensive playcalling or at least he should have stepped in on saturday because 60+ pass plays is completely unacceptable. He also needs to pick his leaders better like someone said earlier. Santonio Holmes as captain? Two words that do not belong together he has always had character issues what made Rex think he would change with a C on his chest.
