A lot of the medical experts that said Chad's recovery is unlikely live now, and practice modern medicine. This isn't a case of an injury happening 50 years ago that couldn't be cured because of basically what we'd call malpractice, these are people talking about injuries that happened just several years ago that don't give a great chance at recovery. Seriously, you're overstating the impact of "modern" medicine. I wasn't really posting towards you specifically though Alio, I was responding more to the guy that's taking this oddly personally. Yet, he's attacking me. If I stab someone in the heart, modern medicine or no, there's a pretty good chance the person dies. Modern medicine isn't going to suddenly make china-doll Chad Pennington into an iron man. At the very best, it could restore him to what he was beforehand, but this is unlikely. Most experts say at the best he will be a sizeable percentage weaker than before. It's not like he was strong to begin with. That's basic medicine, science, and biology, regardless of the era or how expensive the medical technology has become.
Oh absolutely Serphnx. I don't disagree. No modern medicine makes a guy more able than he was pre-injury. 20 years from now? Maybe, but not now. The safe bet is that Penny will lose quite a bit. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a chinadoll, but yes, he hasn't exactly been an ironman. Basically, I figure if the surgery was enough of a success, Penny is one of the few guys in the league who can bounce back thanks to overwhelming heart and desire. If the surgery wasn't enough of a success, then no amount of desire is going to make him come back as a starter. I wasn't trying to come off as though I was slinging back at you. I was really just trying to clarify my point. No hard feelings I hope.
I think I was the one who was being unclear. I didn't mean to insinuate Chad's arm had completely fallen off, it was just an analogy that was admittedly badly placed considering the context. I like the stab the heart thing a bit better since it's more clear that it's an analogy. I meant the other guy was attacking me, not you. No hard feelings at all between us, and I definitely understand where you are coming from. I don't see you attacking me in our exchanges at all, and I hope I didn't come off that way myself. I think we both actually have the same point, I don't think modern medicine can do everything, and you also believe in Pennington making the recovery because of himself (heart and determination) as well. Same idea, different wording.
How could I not get P'd we go from talking about a shoulder injury, to you talking about all ills are not incurable, to getting stabbed in the heart ?????? What ??!!! Are those two things even in the same category A Stab to the heart or a torn rotator cuff ? hmmm, which would i choose ? Wow
from what i can remember i think he started light throwing and just practising the motion a couple of months back. a few weeks after the superbowl. Penny will be healthy but never the player that he was going to become. He would have been a champ but imo now he can never make it. In Herms opinion he should have played in round 16
