There's also the possibility he really did tweak it further at some point during those five weeks. With the way the Jets have managed concussions this year running Greene and Revis back into games after they got whomped, it wouldn't shock me if they screwed this up too trying to rush Keller back and he made things worse. Could also explain why there's no new info, they don't want to admit they probably f**ked things up.
Didnt feel like reading this thread but ill say this it makes absolutely NO sense at all. Keller has no leverage. Plus if the Jets want Keller back theyre just going to use the franchise tag on him (theres nobody else worth using it on next year)
I'm almost positive that I read that Keller suffered a setback during the week of practice before Pittsburgh after being ineffective in week 1. I'm not in love with Keller, but I have no doubts that he'd be playing if he could.
He hasn't been good enough to warrant a big contract, or to have his agent be dumb enough to do this. Is it possible his hamstring is still slightly bothering him, and he's taking every precaution til he feels 100% because of the contract? There's a chance, but that's not necessarily a bad thing because of how hamstrings are. But that's it. This doesn't improve his negotiating stance at all. Revis has shown he will hold out, and out whole defense changes. Keller misses games, and yeah, we miss him, but it's not like he's a super impactful player when he's out there. 1 and 2 only happen if he's not 100% healthy. And if he's not 100% healthy, and he's worried about it, if he wants to take an extra game this early in the season, whatever. I'm not going to call him out on it unless the coaching staff turns on him. Who am I to say if someone is hurting or not? I have no idea.
Seriously, how do u make that connection? Being injured us costing Keller hundreds of thousands a game in future contract. Hammys can very easily come back, so no, as much as Keller wants to come back, it's not in his hands.
As others have said, hamstrings are lingering issues and quite honestly the Jets don't need Dustin Keller, they just needed to have a better back-up plan and they didn't. He's a nice TE, Top 15, but not Top 10 and could be replaced in the off-season.
Keller will be gone so it doesn't really matter anyway. Or if he stays it will be for far less than he may think he is worth.
Nonsense. You don't skip games in your contract year unless you've got an established value and no longer need to prove anything to the rest of the league. Except for homer Jets fans, nobody is looking at Keller as some kind of stud TE who can skip some games and still get a sweet deal in FA.
