Good lord, these threads are nauseating to see after ONE bad game by Geno. Yes, Michael Vick, of all people, is going to come in and lead this team to the Super Bowl. Of course, the answer is so simple, Vick never turns it over, he's known for accurate passing and smart decision-making, and his past couple seasons were MVP caliber, how did I forget???? Geno will not be benched barring a prolonged stretch of atrocious play. And when you consider his bad games last season (< 50% completion, 150 yards passing, multiple turnovers) v. his alleged bad game this season (63% completion, 316 yards passing, 2 INTs), you can see the leaps and bounds improvement even on his worst day so far this season. This fanbase simply does not, and never will, have the patience to watch a QB develop. Good thing neither Rex nor Idzik could give a damn what impatient fans who delusionally believe this roster is a championship contender outside of QB think!
Yes, thanks, I should have mentioned that, too. Something tells me I won't get an example of that situation back. And that should have been obvious to 1985 before he posted that, too.
Normally i would ignore this post, but it based on such a clear misunderstanding of my post about this being a potential playoff team I need to clear it up. It is not simply a matter of starting Vick. I and others noted a playoff season would depend in addition to that on having better Cb's, significant improvement on the OL especially by Winters, a better pass rush and improved play by Coples and Davis. Actually I think Coples and Davis have given indications of that, but the other elements are problematic at this point.
They sacrificed the 2013 they're not sacrificing the 2014 season. If Geno implodes then they'll play Vick. With that said teams have sacrificed seasons if they thought they had a young QB worthy enough.
There are two examples. Tony Banks in 1996 started as a rookie and played poorly. They started him again in 1997 and 1998. They sacrificed 2 or 3 seasons because they thought he had potential. It didn't work out so they signed Trent Green and plus they had some guy named Kurt Warner from NFL Europe. Then there was Drew Brees granted he didn't start in his first year. But in year 2 he got to start and showed potential but he was shaky. They brought him back in year 3 and he regressed and got benched and then got hurt. They sacrificed 2 years because they we're rebuilding and they felt they were a few years away from truly contending. So they figured they'd let Brees play. Brees was shaky through 2 years so they drafted Rivers.
I didn't forget. The point of the post was to show two examples where playing a struggling QB both succeeded and failed. Brees put it together in year 4 and Banks never put it together.
I think you are right. Last week was not good. But Geno's turnovers are not egregious. Vet QBs throw dumb INTs all the time. What hurts Geno is that he does not put the ball in the end zone. And not just because he gets intercepted every time he is down there. His red zone production is poor. Fewer incompletions down there is what you want. Maybe a lot of it is his personnel not being able to get open down there? But some of it at least has to be on him. The red zone failures are the key. Forget about fixating on the occasional turnover. You do not want them to happen, but they are not the real problem
we are in a rebuild. i know some fans simply can accept that, but its reality and people need to deal with it. its 100% the correct move. and it would be idiotic to do anything else. a few more wins under vick would be a complete waste of a season. its about 2015/2016 when we can actually be in position to compete for something, and when brady will really be on his last legs, if not gone.
reading this thread, there really arent many, if anypme saying geno is going to develop into some great player. but you still need to go through the process and see if he is worth keeping... either as a starter or backup, moving forward
id say it worked out well. they realize he wasnt the guy and moved on to green, and kurt warner - went on to break all kinds of records, and won the superbowl
Stop it. that is just an embarassing statement right there. they are certainly egregious. they are reckless, irresponsible, bone headed mistakes. throwing a interception on first down in a close game inside the 10 yard line on a busted play while rolling and throwing a jump pass across your body into tight coverage is certainly egregious. forcing a screen pass that is clearly busted on the games 1st attempt instead of dirting it is egregious carrying the ball like a loaf of bread and going head first into defenders is egregious
We've been rebuilding since I was born. that's the mantra of a fan who accepts mediocrity and loves shitty qbs.
