This is one major reason why he will end up on the bench this year IMO. He will not be able to handle the pressure of a young buck breathing down his neck for the starting job.
don't know where I stand on this honestly........think I've counted Chad out a few times already (like everyone else).....and watching that game the other night, man it just makes me cringe, the happy feet, the weak arm.......but I remember feeling the same way last year going into the season, then he has the big opener. i almost think it's worth a step backward to get the new guy going and see what we have.......I think Chad's time has passed and we will take a step backward anyway this year. But everytime I think that, Chad proves me wrong, so we shall see
I feel exactly the same way, Tcrock. Last year, I too was giving up the faith, only to have Chad move the chains like a completely different QB out there. Who the hell knows.....
Hmm, couple interesting tidbits from Friday's game... There was no Thomas Jones. Instead, the TGG-mancrush Leon Washington was running the ball with the first team. This was against last year's best run defense. Put together the pieces boys. Leon is not all that good, (but I'm not getting into THAT argument right now for the thousandth time.) So rather than concentrate on stopping what they knew to be a poor running game, they attacked Chad. Not really all that hard to see why he threw a couple picks. Especially since the second one had NOTHING to do with ability, and was simply a total brain fart under pressure. Now I keep seeing "ZOMG, Clemens was drafted in the second round, the CS MUST think he's AWESOME. Think about it, they passed on Leinart AND Cutler!" Well, maybe, just maybe, after picking up D'Brick and getting a steal of Mangold, they felt in the second round that the next great steal was Clemens. Does that mean he was drafted TO be the future QB? Or was he drafted to POSSIBLY be the future QB? They skipped the clear 3 best QB prospects in the draft not because they didn't like their abilities, but because they wanted to fill two huge holes on the O-Line, and were in the perfect position to do so. (Not to mention, at the time, it looked like a fair bet we'd win the Quinn award last year, which we fortunately didn't.) As for Clemens "outplaying" Chad (and I'm not even going to get into the Bolly outplaying Chad comment,) anyone want to tell me who Clemens was playing against when he looked like a "superstar"? Here's a hint, they weren't the first-stringers. Clemens is a second year pro. OF COURSE he's going to look better against guys who are desperately fighting for a spot on the team. Not to mention, the Jets are DEEP at WR, so he has options to throw to on the second team. What do the Vikes have to look forward to on their second-string D? Come on people, this is not very complicated stuff. But of course, ignoring factual evidence to support your argument is a trademark of a proper TGG debate. And I really love how last year we were all sitting around here begging for just a little progress to be made, and getting all excited about the "Mangini 3 Year Plan," yet just 12 months later, people are ready to burn someone at the stake because we won't win the Super Bowl this year. Hate to break it to you guys, but even if the Colts traded us Peyton for Chad, straight up, we'd still not play in the last game of the '07-'08 season. It's freaking preseason. Relax, enjoy the fact that true football is right around the corner, and be hopeful that we have success. But stop pretending that Kellen Clemens is suddenly the next Tom Brady, and is the final piece of our Super Bowl puzzle. Here's a small list of some of the QBs that were supposed to have "saved our franchise" over the past couple decades: Boomer Esiason Glenn Foley Browning Nagle Neil O'Donnell Vinny Testaverde We've had quite a few QBs come and go besides those guys since the 90s started. Have any of them brought us to the Super Bowl? I still argue that the only one who got us within a game also prevented us from getting all the way there. ---------------- All that said, by the end of last year I agreed that Chad was probably done. I was calling for Clemens too. However, this is a new year, and I'm curious to see what Chad can do with this offense. However, if the line continues to play poorly, and Jones doesn't get fully healthy, we're in for a long season. If that happens, I STILL don't want to see Clemens, unless this CS doesn't really believe he is the answer anyway. With the line play and lack of rushing attack, whoever is in at QB is going to get a smackdown by good defenses. So in the end, Clemens shouldn't play this year no matter what. Chad's the QB. EOS.
i hardly think the org will look at it this way. If they have a piss poor first half of the season and are a lock to not make a playoff push, i think it's safe to say we'll see the end of the Pennington era.and Clemens will take th reigns....
people say that clemens should have been a first round quarterback which i agree with and it was a steal. then how come you say that second year quarterbacks should play like that if they went up against the first team defense when eli manning was forced into the role in '05 and he did just fine to lead them to the playoffs. Clemens WILL be ready cus if a bone head like eli can do it then kellen can do it too. Plus. quarterbacks for years have been pushed into the starting role and sometimes for there rookie year too so dont passify clemens cus i think that he IS ready but i would still take chad and THEN decide if we should switch
Okay, after pulling out my Baternet Decoder Ring, I can respond to this... Clemens would "arguably" have been the top pick in the draft IF he had not missed MOST of his senior season. 1) There's no guarantee he would have been that great. 2) He missed an entire year of development. Hence a second-round drop. Comparing Kellen Clemens to Eli Manning isn't really even worth the time it would take to argue with you. Anyway, as I said, I was calling for Clemens to play at the end of last season. I think the kid is the future. However, right now, this is Chad's team. Kellen has done absolutely NOTHING yet to show me he should be playing with the first team. Here's a great time to bring this one back up. A couple pages back, someone mentioned that Brooks Bollinger looked better than Chad in preseason. Anyone care to remember how it turned out when he got his "big chance"? Talk to me when the Jets have a line that can block, and a RB who isn't just flashy in the open field, and then we'll discuss who should be the starting QB.
He went 2 and 2 in his last 4 starts with the Jets after Herm came out of his terrible funk and actually let him play QB instead of nursemaid to the ball which was the position he basically played for his first 4 starts. Herm singlehandedly went about 0-6 in the middle of the 4-12 debacle by not letting his players play to win the damn game. Would they only have gone 2-4 if he had just not had his head up his ass feeling sorry for himself? Probably, and that's why I was glad to see him out the door and don't let it hit you in that ass on the way out. And no, I'm not saying Bollinger is a particularly good QB because he's not but to judge him based on playing for a depressed coach who gave up early is just not right.
ahh alio, your right there is a mancrush on leon but where you and i split is i think its deserved. the only thing i saw with our running game was leon washington breaking numerous tackles in the backfield because our o line blows. put leon in front of a better line and hes talked about leaguewide
