Where did this idea that Moore is the best run blocker on our line come from? Is it just cause Favre made some comment? In the games I watched, Woody was clearly a better run blocker.
Overall, I think you could make an argument that Moore is anywhere between the 2nd and 4th best lineman on our very good oline. Not to mention, as we all very well know, continuity on the line is as important, if not more important, than talent. Brandon Moore has proven himself on our line for years now, and has progressed EVERY SINGLE YEAR. People don't remember that he had never played any position on the Oline until just 5 years ago. The Oline, especially run blocking, clearly progressed over the 2008 season. Most of the big runs going to the right side, behind Brandon Moore. INMHO, Brandon Moore would be a greater usage of our money than either Ray Lewis or Jim Leohnard.
Weren't the overwhelming majority of positive runs to the right side last year? Not sure what that says about Faneca or Ferguson..well I do know what it says about Ferguson but then that is nothing new. He did. Jones averaged 4.8 YPC to the right side, 4.9 up the middle and 3.1 to the left side. That says a lot about where the weakness is.
I agree that this is a mistake. Even if we kept Moore, I felt that the Jets needed to draft a OG pretty high, to start grooming for the future. Now we have a hole in the line, hopefully they have a plan.....
We don't have a hole yet as he hasn't been cut. He's not even a FA, is he? So they have time to decide what will be the best thing in the end.
I think if we can get Scott we'll release Moore... otherwise we'll probably keep him and go after a LB or CB that wants less money.
If we cut Moore his signing bonus by new team will be much bigger then the $7 million the Jets are saving by cutting him.
if i were tanny: 1- release moore 2- the moment moore is released, he becomes a free agent 3- franschise tag him. the difference between his franchise number ($5M) and his roster bonus ($7M) is about $2M. 4- cha ching next issue....
I just don't get it? There has to be something we are missing??? The Jets are willing to cut a guy because of a $7mm roster bonus, and then go out and probably have to pay $5mm for the same quality guard? I would think given that Moore has been with the Jets his entire career, knows the system, the players, and the coaches, that would be worth something?? He has progressed every year he's been on the team...don't forget, this guy was a defensive tackle his entire life before 6 years ago.
I was always liked him. A former DT converted to RG. He was great last year and had the best season of his life last year.
Seems like Tanny really screwed this one up during the raise last year. He was underpaid last year, so he quietly protested (the opposite of Kendall and Baker), and was rewarded with a raise and a new contract. Why in the Sam Hill did Tanny put that 7 million dollar bonus poison pill into the contract knowing full well that he would have to be cut or restructured?!!
It's only a 5 million roster bonus. What is ridiculoius is that the only reason the Jets are doing this is because he is the only person left on the roster where they could save money if they cut him. Everybody else would cost them even more to cut than to keep them.
A poison pill is something which is worked into the contract of a restricted free agent which would negatively effect his current team but would not have the same effect on the new team (i.e Steve Hutchinson being guaranteed to always be the highest paid player on the line. Seahawks have Walter Jones and the Vikings don't
