Where I have the problem is Coles was being tackled by another Dolphag and had no way to brace himself for a cheap yet legal het. It was nice to see him and Mr. Alabama yucking it up on the sideline. Hope they enjoy their 6 win season.
I agree they were both good hard hits, but under the new rules, both hits were helmet to helmet and should have been penalties. If the NFL is going to be consistent, any helmet to helmet hit is 15 yards, whether it is a good aggressive football play or not.
No question both were illegal hits because they led w/ their helmets. Both should have rceived flags.
I mean jesus, I dont want Coles to be another Chrebet, Toon and that hit last night looked like it. I will never understand the NFL, very inconsistent with these calles
I honestly thought the hits were illegal at the time. At this point, I don't know. Was it a product of good clean football? I don't know. The hit on Leon sounded like helmet to helmet. The hit on Coles looked like helmet to helmet. (I tend to slant toward a dirty hit on Coles, simply because it was that dirtbag Zach that did it.) I don't know. Either way, these guys are being strung out by Chad, and unless that changes, our playmakers are going to continue to get hit like that. Chad better get it together before one of our guys winds up being carted out.
The thing that bothered me about the Coles hit is that Espn was only showing the one angle the whole time. All I could see was Coles getting railed and I couldn't get a good read on where Thomas' helmet ended up hitting first due to the poor angle.
The Washington hit was helmet to helmet. No question should have been flagged. Kudos  to Wahington getting right up and not letting it faze him. The Coles hit was hard and ugly but legal  Give credit to our defense as they picked up their game as well.
the Leon hit was helmet to helmet because Leon was slipping backwards and his head lowered into the hit. the tackler would have hit his chest, he wasn't aiming for his head.
You keep forgetting that Coles wears the logo & jersey colors of the Jets. Not gonna happen, we always get shafted.
Sure Chad did hang them out to dry...doesn't mean Leon and Coles needed to be drilled helmet to helmet. There have been plenty of helmet to helmet shots on plays where guys are not hung out to dry. The Dolphins played dirty, they were trying to be Ben Davidson or something.
If someone could provide the actual rule for the helmet to helmet contact, that might help some people to understand. The hit on coles is not what you call a clean hit, especially when the reciever is in a prone position, and zach made helmet to helmet. He was squared up, but he brought his head in first. Leon's hit can go was not, as someone pointed out, he was falling backwards. He also made the catch, and made a move, so he wasn't helpless as Coles was. And Chad is not the first, and will not be the last to leave his WR to get thier clocks cleaned. That is apart of the game, and sometimes that happens. Ask Keyshawn how he felt about bledsoe last year.
I don't necessarily think the Coles hit was helmet to helmet, I thought it was more "spearing" on thomas's part. they only showed one angle on TV so i don't know.
I also don't see how you can complain about the pass by Pennington on the throw to Leon Washington. If he didn't loft the pass it would have been intercepted by Jason Taylor. Taylor had read the play (although a little late) and would have been in position to intercept tha ball if Chad hadn't lofted it to Washington.
Just got done watching SNY and both those hit replays several times. I come away with helmet-to-helmet on both of them. I find it amazing the refs didn't call at least one of them. Washington's is the classic definition of helmet-to-helmet. Poor officiating on those, IMO.... should've cost Miami some yards.
we agree on that. even if the league fines them after the fact, it doesn't replace an injured or concussed player. of course, our defense could also retaliate against their guys.
