I disagree. If he’s who the “experts” (air quotes) believe him to be, then he shouldn’t be holding a clipboard. The only thing that annoys me a little is that we don’t a proven vet to back him up & be in his ear like McCown was for Sam. Josh Johnson ain’t it IMO. That said, there’s still plenty of time for them to fix that final cuts & before the trade deadline.
The "experts" aren't really a consensus. some people think he sucks, like Cowherd. But if you are referring to the "experts" that compared his game to Rodgers or Mahomes, then its ironic you say what you are saying because both Rodgers and Mahomes held clipboards their rookie years like Wilson should be doing
Rodgers had to have his throwing mechanics reworked so he definitely needed to sit aside from the fact he was drafted on a team with a HOF QB. Mahomes didn’t need to sit. He sat because KC had a good team with a QB playing well. The Mahomes card was burning a proverbial hole in their pockets the entire season. Our situation is completely different. We’re not a retuning playoff team w/ a playoff or HOF QB.
Way to early to tell what kind of QB Wilson will be. I remember listening to Tony Romo talk about QB's and their development and he basically said it takes about three years before you have your answer. Some play well right away like Marino or Herbert. Others struggle in the beginning like Manning or Elway. My guess is Wilson will develop like Allen. I expect growing pains this year but he will get better as the team gets better just like Allen and the Bills. He has the work ethic and talent but it will take some time to see if he has the "it" factor that all franchise QB's have.
Allen’s physical running ability bought him much needed development time. Wilson doesn’t have that club in his bag which is fine since I don’t think he needs the same development time as Allen did. If Wilson starts off his career like Allen in NY w/o the aforementioned running to offset the poor passing numbers, he would be run out of town. Buffalo & NYC are 2 different beasts.
Patrick Mahomes would've stunk if drafted into Maccagnan's O-Line with no WRs and crap RBs. And no elite TE either. Don't believe me? Go back and look at his game vs. Tampa Bay during the SB. He was just as atrocious as Sam Darnold ever was. And that's because his O-Line was absolutely depleted. 0 TDs/2 INTs/sacked 4-5x and an embarrassing QB rating of like 52 2 Patrick Mahomes would've never won us a SB. Never would've made an All-Pro, never would've made a Pro Bowl and never would've returned us 2 first round picks if drafted into an awful Mike Maccagnan led O-Line and no Andy Reid. Even with Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Kelce and Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes could not play Football vs TB with a depleted O-Line that stunk.
The good old “hE wOuLdN’t Be GoOd HeRe” take. I anticipate I’ll be hearing that a lot in a couple of years. Anyway, thanks for sharing that but no one debating what Patrick Mahomes would be in a Jets uniform in this thread. We’ve already beaten that to death in hundreds of threads since 2017. Sidebar: I envision you screaming as you write up your posts, am I right?
It is a valid take if nothing else shutting down the nay sayers when he has a bad game. (Because he will, how did rookie Andrew Luck do against Rex Ryan Jets) I am not sure it really matters for development. Do you learn more playing or sitting? It is not like we are Superbowl contender like the Chiefs were. That is the only reason Mahomes sat.
I think that would've been the best approach too. But if legler is correct that you can't ruin a good QB, then we should be fine. That said, there's likely going to be some ups and downs, and judging by the reactions already, alternating panic and euphoria among Jets fans.
I think it's less of a face fuck culture shock if a player sits for a year especially when you consider all the exterior factors - young kid, new city, faster game, more fans, more scrutiny, grown ass men relying on you (teammates), being paid to play for the first time, etc. That goes for all young quarterbacks, not just Wilson. That aside though, teams with continuity offer a better situation for players to start right away. The 49ers for example, are returning most of their offense, the core of their primary coaching staff minus some assistants we plucked, an established winning culture with team leaders, etc. We have a brand new rooke coaching staff, one returning receiver, what could be there new offensive lineman, literally an entire year with nearly zero tightend production, and a brand new culture in general. It was the perfect situation for any quarterback not named Lawrence to sit behind a veteran backup and let the team and culture develop before the weight is on his shoulders. If Mims steps up his game, we could realistically be looking at starting what amounts to two rookie receivers and a free agent signing, along with 3/4 brand new runningbacks.
Stopped reading after you said they have the worst staff in the division. They haven’t coached a game yet lol
Wouldn’t have been as good but the dude was making outrageous throws in that Super Bowlto keep him in it. He would’ve been just fine
Agree with this, I really don't buy into the whole "organizations ruin QB's" thing. It's true in rare cases but usually if the guy is good he'll figure it out, if he's not he won't. If Wilson ends up being bad it will be primarily Wilson's fault.
