Ha ha you are funny duck into the nearest possible safety net instead of having to finally admit that the NYJs have a whole passel of garbage players which is why they stink now & will continue to stink in the future. Just out of 22 players ending as starters last year maybe 15 or more need replacing. What does that say about the owner/GM & CS?
How can you blame games on the Defense when they game up 16 points or less! Do you expect them to get shutouts every week? How many defenses give up fewer than 16 points a game? What exactly could the defense have done better in games where they gave up 16, 13, 14 and Ten points exactly? Im by no means saying our defense is good because they are not but the same offense that was on the field last year should be able to beat bottom of the barrel teams like the BILLS! If you give up 14 and 13 points to the Bills you are supposed to win. The Bill's ain't that and our beloved Cp can't even score to beat them! And it is not the defenses fault in those games! It's on the offense! You still have yet to answer how it is the defenses fault in those games against bad teams where we gave up 16 points or less. You call Champ out for dodging Questions you answer this one. The score of the games were facts!
You keep bringing up that Tenn game... you do realize it was at the end of the year when the defense was actually showing up for the games, right? Yes, we should have been able to win it... some more offense would have been great there. When I have I not laid criticism at the offense? I'm not saying the offense didn't suck... at the same time the defense did us few favors in the first few weeks of the season. No, I don't expect shutouts, but a couple of those a year would be nice too. Why the hell was Miami of all teams putting up 28 and 14 against us? And in games like the Bengals where we managed the offensive points, the defense bagged us by not holding them to less than we scored. Too much to ask? Not in my opinion. You think our offense should have beat the crappy Bills... what the hell am I even talking to you for?
He won't answer you, other than to tell you that he's said it before and that it's your job to "look it up."
Well, he mentioned that we don't have to replace Harris, Revis, and Rhodes on defense, so that means there are four guys on offense he wants to keep.
I keep bringing up the Buffalo games. What is the excuse for not scoring against the Bills? I specifically mentioned the Two Bill games where we scored a scorching 3 and 14 points respectively. Week 4 and Week 8 of the season. Any game that your defense holds the Offense to 16 points and lower in the Afc is a Favor to the offense. How many decent teams in the nfl would be blaming a defense that gave up 14 and 13 points to the Bills and lost. The Dolphins had Trent Green in their first game against us and he is a hell of a lot better than who we have at Qb and we escaped with a win in that game. The Bengal game was a disgrace by our defense. Answer this question? Do you think the Bills should hold us to under 14 points twice in a season?
Dude, how many times do I have to say that our offense stunk?? Seriously. There are games that the offense blew for us. There are games that Chad threw away for us. And there are games that the defense let get away. I think we should score more than the other team, and I think the defense should help us do that by limiting the other teams points as much as possible. All I am saying is bitch about the defense too, because they were just as guilty as anyone last year in our going 4-12. Our defense did suck last year, although I am not entirely sure why. Our OL sucks to high heaven. We have some issues at QB (issues I agree to disagree with you on). Are you with me yet?
Im with you. I am by no means defending our Defense. With the exception of Harris, Rhodes and Revis they all need to be upgraded or downgraded to backups. The main thing with the Defense is the Line. They can't get pressure on anybody. Robertson and Ellis should be traded while they still have value to get guys that fit the 3-4. With the exception of Offensive line the majority of our draft picks should be on the defensive side of the ball. Especially the line.
The home Buffalo game was a strange one. Both offenses in the first half moved well and ate up 10 minutes a piece on their first drives, then each one stalled and each team kicked a FG. So while the game was mostly the offenses moving and controlling the ball, it was only 3-3 late in the half. Then the whole game just got bad offensively until the Bills hit the one big play and Clemens threw his late picks to pretty much ice it.
I am with both of you. Our defensive line must be beefed up as well. I am not sure of the degree this will be accomplished this off-season, however. We were consistantly getting pushed back all season long. I beleive it wasn't until our 7th game of the year that we recorded our first sack. That says it all IMO. Teams could run on us most of the time. If on first down the runner gets 6 or 7 yards; it opens up a whole new array of play calling. Teams can be a bit more aggressive on 2nd down if they want to; if it does work out, they are left with 3rd and short; and it is pretty easy to complete a 5 yard pass if we get no rush on the QB. While I do not think things are quite at the level of Champ doom; they definitely are not too good. Both our offensive and defensive lines are not good. That spells 4-12. Let's at least get one working right this off-season.
I'd say the same pretty much. Main focus is the OL and behind that the defensive line. We apparently need to do something about Bryan "I Got Mine" Thomas who disappeared for the most part this year. With a good end on one side I think Ellis is still viable there for 2-3 years. I still think we have decent talent on defense and we just aren't getting as much bang for our buck. Whether that is coaching, adjusting to 3-4, or players I can't be sure. But we have shored up some talent on that side. It should start paying off soon.
It not "doom" it is reality & it is high time all of you on this board realize it. If 8 starters need to be replaced on D & maybe 5 or more on the O what does that tell you being a FB mavin? My assessment is 08 & 09 for sure are years you will want to forget about. That may also stretch to 2010 & beyond. Just think anywhere from 13 on up starters must be replaced to become just competive with the NEPs not even becoming better then the Pats. How many years would you estimate that it would take us to get 13 starters to replace the garbage we have now? You do realize that is more then 1/2 team right?
Here's a copy of an article from the ESPN page today. You're right Champ, after reading this, how could the Jets have missed on Brady. And when you read the last sentence, it backs up your point that the Pats knew what they had while he was on their bench. An obvious question about Tom Brady: How could he go from part-time starter at Michigan to one of the all-time greats? Brady addressed the subject in some depth at the Patriots' media session this morning. Three issues might have played leading roles: One, the people who recruited him to Michigan and therefore had the most invested in him left the coaching staff early in his career there; two, the traits that make a great college quarterback don't always line up with those that make great NFL quarterbacks; and three, Brady has improved a great deal since his time in college. Here is the full text of Brady's answer: "My first few years, I was just trying to get on the field however I could. After we won the national championship in '97 with Brian (Griese) as the quarterback, I competed pretty hard with Brian that year to be the starter and he beat me out in training camp. We went on to be 12-0. Going into that next season, that was when Drew (Henson) came in and Drew was an incredible player and an incredible athlete. He was from Brighton (Mich.) and he was recruited heavily by coach (Lloyd) Carr. When I went there, I was recruited by coach (Gary) Moeller and the guy who recruited me, Bill Harris, left the year that I got there to go to Stanford. "And the following year, the quarterback coach who recruited me, Jim Cartwright, left. And so, really, my second year, there was really nobody who had really known me or sat in my living room and said, 'Tom, we really want you at Michigan.' "Not that I didn't feel wanted because I certainly did. Coach Carr always looked me in eye and said, 'Tom, this is the place for you and if you want to be the starting quarterback here, quit worrying about what everyone else thinks and try to compete as hard as you can.' Those were great lessons for me. "In my fourth year, Drew had come in and he was competing and a great player. I'm surprised he is not playing today. And we did pretty good when I was there my last couple years, 10-3 and 10-2, finished fifth in the country one year. There was a lot of teams that didn't choose me coming out and I really feel that I have improved a lot as a player as well and had great coaching, I've had a great system around me and maybe some of the attributes that it takes to be a great professional quarterback aren't really the same things that require a college quarterback to be a great player. "I feel some of my strengths are my awareness, my decision making. I've never been a great athlete and those tend to be some of the great players in college because when you are playing against linebackers who run 4.9 in college and you run 4.7 in college, you can outrun those linebackers. In the pros, those guys are running 4.5s. so if you run a 4.7 and you are a slow guy, you have to focus on the abilities that there are a lot of ways to be a great quarterback. You can throw it, you can run it, decisions, accuracy, arm strength. I've tried to imrpove with the coaching I have had and take that coaching so I can continue to find ways to improve your game. "I never think it's personal. Coach Carr was truly doing what he thought was best for the team and he was right in his perspective. Sometimes I disagreed with it, but I would never change a day in my life, especially the lessons I learned there because those have really suited me well on the professional level. "You have to learn to compete and you have to learn to compete on the practice field because you can't just all of a sudd get to the game and say, 'Oh, it's game day and now all of a sudden I'm going to be a better player.' In college, we would run two-minute drills against our defense and I wasn't sure if I didn't score on that two-minute drive if I would start the game on Saturday. Talk about pressure. I was feeling pressure Thursday afternoon at practice to get our starting off into the end zone against our defense. Now you get into the games and you run into those situations, you're already playing so now you're having a great time out there. I try to continue that into this level now where those practices are extremely important to what we do and how well we are prepared and confident as a team going into a game." That's about as honest and direct an answer as we could have hoped Brady to deliver. As for his early days with New England, Brady got some laughs with this description: "I was the fourth-string quarterback and eating nachos before the game."
Surprisingly that was a good read. I really have nothing against the guy except he's in our division, which creates a huge problem for us. But yeah, further proof that champ is delusional--kind of like further proof that OJ is guilty.
It really is to bad both you & JWWS did not see the CBNC program last Sunday nite otherwise you would not be looking as silly as you do
Look instead of defending the NYJs in picking CP over TB you should have considered that if the NYJs were going to draft a QB in that draft then it was most prudent of them to find out about EVERY QB that is going to be available in that draft. By not doing that they missed a wonderful opportunity to get a FRANCHISE QB. I am sure that they NEVER/EVER considered TB even though they knew they were going to be drafting a QB in that draft. Most probably they were already locked into CP so they went on to other things instead of double checking to see if CP was the very best available. I would speculate the NYJs were more impressed with CP stats thanks to Moss then his abilitiies to be a NFL QB
