"Sanchez will fail miserably this year"

Should we consider that a fact?

holy shit, why am I surprised you would make such a dumb fuck argument in defense of your dumb fuck argument.

one, we are already a playoff caliber team. so, why would we want to get worse just for a higher draft pick in the hopes that we then get good enough to make the playoffs again? what we want is to be good enough to take that next step from playoff team to Super Bowl team. another 8-8 season isn't an awful thing if the team is just a few pieces away, meaning they have the talent to be built upon. a disastrous 3-13 season means they do not have the talent to build on and need to start over.

but more to the point of your asinine assertion, how do you explain teams that consistently only win 5 or 7 games over long stretches of time? clearly sucking has not helped them.

what you are proposing isn't about building through the draft, because you can build through the draft with low round picks just as much as high round picks, so sucking to get the high round pick isn't the solution.

the Jets can go 9-7 and still build through the draft by drafting the right player that fills the deficiency that caused the 9-7 season which can in turn propel us to a 12-4 season.

Teams that get the #1 pick usually don't win a Super Bowl with the guy they take.

There's only 1 guy in the last 15 years who won the Super Bowl with the team that took him and that's Peyton Manning and he did it once.

Eli won 2 Super Bowls but not with the team that took him.

Orlando Pace did it also but it was a miraculous QB discovery and playing with the best offensive player in the game that got him over the top.

The salary cap era is different than the history before it. One player doesn't make a huge difference like they used too because you can't fit them into the cap without giving up lots elsewhere in the process.

Peyton Manning probably would have won 4 rings or so if he'd arrived in the NFL in the 80's with the management team that brought him to the Colts and developed him. They were hamstrung by his greatness and the cap and so they could never quite get all the pieces together around him to compete well with other great teams in the post-season.

Its better to have it now than before since the cap implications aren't so dire for having the top pick.

teams that end up with top 5 picks don't start with competitive records, look to be in the playoff chase for part of the season, and then go on a nose dive at the end. teams with top 5 picks suck from the get go, meaning any fan that wants a top 5 pick doesn't want to see the Jets have any success at all this season, they want the team to be awful from game 1.

it is dumbfounding how any fan could go into a season hoping the Jets will be awful, after an 8-8 season that followed two AFCCG seasons.

it isn't as if the Jets went 2-14 last year and look like they have no chance this year. at that point it is realistic to believe the Jets aren't quite there yet and may need another season of player acquisitions to get better.

but we are a playoff caliber team.

    this

i dont care what anyone says i will never root for my team to have a top 5 pick at 0 - 0...that's absolutely insane, and anyone who feels that way should find a new hobby.

the only time i root for a top 5 pick is when i play madden on franchise mode and sim the season.

They're still pretty dire if the guy works out.

A QB is going to take a few years to get up to speed, even a Peyton Manning. So just at the point that he is hitting his prime he's also coming up for the second contract which is going to be a monster since the first one was rookie capped.

Having the #1 pick still isn't going to win you a Super Bowl unless that player is one of the best of all time.
