http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...omNfl-TopStories+(USATODAY+-+NFL+Top+Stories) Browns' Joe Banner strives to be NFL's next great CEO BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner sat inside his second-floor office overlooking the team's practice field, rebuilding a franchise and fighting a battle between perception and reality. It's one thing when fans believe you're waving a white flag on the season, but it's another when your colleagues think so, too. After the Browns traded running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts, the phone started ringing. Other teams wanted to go shopping in the Browns' locker room, starting with wide receiver Josh Gordon. Banner said his message was simple: "We're absolutely not shopping Josh," he told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. "We're not going to shop him and we don't have any plan or intention to trade him." "When we did the Trent Richardson trade, the perception was we were throwing in the towel, (so) we got calls on players," Banner said. "I guess that was a natural reaction based on how the move was perceived. "If you're in this long enough, you learn to never say anything absolute, because then something comes up and you look like you lied. I personally -- and I think anybody here -- would be completely shocked if we ended up trading him. Josh is playing great. He's working his butt off." Gordon, who missed the first two games while serving a suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, has 18 catches for 303 years with two touchdowns since his return. Banner, 60, is the former Philadelphia Eagles president who is the architect charged with changing the culture of the Browns, who are a surprising 3-2 and tied for first place in the AFC North. If the Browns finish the season strong, they could be prime candidates for Hard Knocks next season, especially if they draft a quarterback.
I'd offer the extra 3rd round pick we're getting from Tampa in the Revis trade for Gordon. That pick will be high in the round, almost like a second round pick, that might entice Cleveland to pull the trigger.

We can also pick our own top flight receiver with that pick..one not prone to trouble..and I am guessing that is what Idzik will/would do.
Its not likely to find a top flight receiver in the 3rd round. It's obviously possible, but it's definitely not a sure thing like Gordon is, talent wise.
Top flight in 3rd round? Youre stretching there. They are few and far between. Certainly not one with the talent that a Gordon has. Edwards had off the field problems before he came here too and those seem to cease once he arrived. We should take a chance with him since Holmes is gone at years end.
Draft picks are not guaranteed. We could draft a player in the 2nd that could be as bad as Gholston was. If we can get him for a 4th and a 5th, I'd pull the trigger on Gordon.
Thankfully John Idzik is in charge of the trigger...not any of the Madden hairtrigger armchair amateur GMs here Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4
I've been hearing rumors that teams want him bad but nothing that says the jets specifically. Nobody believes Incarcerated Bob, he's fucking clown shoes. If it's not a reliable person saying these things, kill the noise.
I sure hope they are. Only thing is I read that there's 3 teams with a high pick offered and a player. Don't know if all 3 teams offered a high pick and player. I can't really think of anyone that I'd like the Jets to give up that the Browns would take. I would give the pick in a heartbeat as long as it's not our 1st.
The Jets are one of the those 3 teams, doesnt mean we'll get him. Chill. I think it'd be a great move though.
I would easily do a 3rd and 5th for Josh Gordon. Hopefully Tampa keeps Revis so we get their 3rd round pick, which will be high at this rate This isn't Braylon Edwards part 2. First off, Gordon is 22, not 27-28. Second, he's a big time playmaker in the mold of Julio Jones (basically plays like him). True, he's one drug suspension away from being suspended for a year, but I'm still willing to take that chance. That's how talented he is, and I have a feeling he'll be on his best behavior going forward.
Oh man, Josh Gordon would be HUGE for this team! It would be the start of providing Geno with solid weapons. Make the move Idzik!!
Didn't we trade a 4th and a 6th for Tim fucking Tebow? Good old Tanny days Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Again, there is a reason that the surprising Cleveland Browns are looking to trade a good young player. That reason is probably that they have concluded that they cannot motivate him to stay clean and avoid a drug-related suspension. They're trying to cut their losses by giving up a damaged asset the previous regime acquired in exchange for fresh assets the new regime can utilize. The question is whether or not the Jets believe that they can keep Josh Gordon on the straight and narrow. They'd better have a pretty good idea of how they're going to do that if they decide to spend good 2014 assets on him to help 2013. It's really hard to keep drug offenders from re-offending. It's a lifestyle thing.
