If the 2006 Jets beat the Patriots and Bears in consecutive weeks, they arent just a playoff contender, theyre super bowl contender. Gruden made it when he wasnt much older, and he was in his first year with the team, same as Mangini. And even if they only make it as the wild card, just last year the Steelers made it as a wild card. Although Id think theyre just as likely to make it as division champs, Patriots have shown weakness for the first time in years. Most people who have followed the team closely the last few years felt like it was a talented team... they just got a lot of bad breaks. It really wasnt that long ago that the Jets were considered a preseason super bowl favorite, and theyve gotten better on paper since then. There are some legitimately talented players on the field here, and it seems like they are playing hard for Mangini, who seems like hes gonna be for the Jets what Cowher has been for the Steelers. I just cant imagine where this team would be if Curtis Martin didnt run his career into the ground for Herm Edwards. Always liked Edwards, but I pretty much hold him responsible for Curtis Martin's career being over. Im liking Barlow and Washington a lot these days... but remembering how good Martin was in 04 makes me feel like this team would be incredible if they had him still.
disagree guys.... as excited as i was with the win at NE, even if thet beat the bears the jets are NOT a super bowl contender.........not with the colts, ravens, broncos and chargers still the teams to beat in the AFC. However.....they definitely erase the re-building status going forward and will be EXPECTED to make the playoffs this year.... with a jet win tomorrow it makes this season that much more enjoyable and gives extra juice to the next 1-2 years.... finally exciting times at hofstra. jil
