I said 4 - 3 mainly because Pouha and Robertson, IMO are NOT the answer at Nose Guard ... PERIOD, POINT BLANK!
I just feel like right now we have better playeres for the 4-3. We dont have a big enough NT, and last year our defense was not why we lost.
This made no notion towards the Jets so I assumed this was just in general what someone would run. I understand that the 46 is a tight 4-4 (so the 2 corners make up the 6 and then the safety) and since everyone always sees a 4-3 or 3-4 it would take longer for an opposing team to gameplan for a 46. I voted for it because if I was HC or any organization the defense I would want to run is the 46, even if I had to pull off a trade or two to get the right talent in here.
The 3-4 is vastly overrated because of the success of the Steelers and Patriots. The Jets defense fits much better in the 43.
First of all, the question proposed here asked what defense we preferred. This should have been in the NFL forum because half the 3-4 backers seem to be voting for the 3-4 only because the Jets will probably run that defense in 2006. (This paragraph wasn't directed to you, Donnie.) The 46 defense got its name from Bears free safety Doug Plank. He wore #46. Plank moved up to play middle linebacker in the original 46, which had a 5-1-5 alignment. The 46 in a nutshell- Three defensive linemen across from the center and guards. (These were the best pass rushers.) The weakside end lined up outside the offensive tackle. The strongside linebacker lined up across from the tight end. The weakside linebacker moved to the strongside in a blitzing lane outside the tight end. The two inside linebackers were off the line and opposite the offensive tackles. There's the eight-man front. Five to eight players would blitz.
Why? Because the soon-to-be 13-3 2006 Jets will probably utilize a 3-4 or because you truly enjoy the 3-4?
That still doesn't answer the question proposed here. The question has nothing to do with the Jets except for the fact the thread creator put it in this forum, unless it was implied this was a Jets question. In which case, I would have voted for 3-4.
Me too -- You have to match the d to the personel and we do not have a NT to run the 3/4 as a base d. I am sure we will see flashes of it but unless pouha develops into a real NT it will just be used to show a different look to the OL.
i would perfer 4-3 so we can have D-Rob and Pouha in at the same time but since we are going to be a mostly 3-4 Defense this year i voted for 3-4.
