Would Lamont Jordan still be a Jet if Tangini was in charge a year ago?

If Tangini cut Curtis-both would be booed forever and probably fired

By the way, the fact that 35% of this site thinks that Tannenbaum and Mangini would've somehow convinced Lamont Jordan to pass up a big contract and a starting job to remain as Martin's backup indefinately suggests to me that you guys are going to be in for a bad fall once the season starts.

    These guys are not superheroes.

If Lamont Jordan's father was the GM...he still wouldn't be here.

    It made no sense.

Curtis Martin was coming off the best season of his career and was the NFL rushing leader. You can't cut him. The Jets even tried to pay Jordan good money, but he was not going to stay if he could easily get a starting job somewhere else.

If the current Fo was in last season the jets would have went to the superbowl, chad won't be hurt and my grandfather would still be alive.

Joe Namath was traded when he was finished. There are plenty of Jets fans who understand the clock ticks on all players. There were many debates on this board before Lamont left after Curtis had his big year that it was time to give Lamont the job.

Chrebet should have never been allowed to play for the Jets last year based on his history of head injuries, Martin is pretty much a third string back at this point, if you can keep him for cheap money he is a good guy and worth keeping around but to expect him to be a dynamic NFL back at his age is ridiculous. You could make an argument that the best player the Jets had on the team for the last 5 years was Mawae and he was cut. In the salary cap era you don't have the luxury of keeping legacy players, particularly if they don't play special teams.

It's easy to say that after last season. I don't know how you could've logically claimed that Martin couldn't be a dynamic back last offseason though, considering that he was coming off of a rushing title.

It doesn't get much more dynamic than that.

Just for the record I said it before the season along with several others on this board.

He got a ton of carries and looked totally shot during the 04 playoffs and he was old. If we hadn't been so locked into Curtis because of the cap I would have signed Lamont and cut Curtis after the 04 season. The deal Curtis had prevented us from doing that. There were quite a few people on this board who were in agreement on Lamont over Martin including myself. That doesn't mean Lamont will be a great back it's just a recognizing that Curtis's days of being a solid workhorse back are over.
