I agree. Garcia poses the same problems as Favre... age, short term solution, and having to learn our offense. At least Simms has longer term potential.

    Yes. JERRY Garcia.
I'd want him to come back to life (resurrect Pigpen while we're at it too) just to sing one more song. If we're going down the roadmfeelin' bad, it might as well be The Dead singing our anthem to us.
They always made the blues feel...happy.

He’s a homo – the local news would have to hire his beard as a sports commentator like fox 13 in Tampa did.

In all honesty, i think we should just ride the wave, with Pennington, for this season, and see where it takes us. I really think all the anti-Chad sentiment, on this site, is bordering on lunacy. The guy has been a product of his enviornment, for the most part. I don't believe his arm strength is as bad as people make it out to be. I really think, behind this offensive line, and with the running backs we have, A healthy Pennington, can take us to a superbowl.
    ok, let the bloodshed, begin...

Beard is a slang term describing a person who poses as a false date or romantic partner to mislead others about the nature of a relationship, and possibly about the sexuality of one or both participants.

Concealing sexual orientation with a beard

Another recognized usage of "beard" applies to a person who serves to camouflage another's sexual orientation. An example is a gay man pretending to date a woman, in an effort to conceal his homosexuality.

A media example is the episode "The Beard" of the television series Seinfeld, in which Elaine Benes acts as the beard accompanying a male homosexual friend, to suggest that they have a heterosexual relationship.

Though the term "beard" wasn't in use until the '60s,[citation needed] many of the reported lavender marriages of 1920s Hollywood, and the reportedly similar 1955-'58 marriage of Rock Hudson are somewhat similar to the modern usage of "beard." Taking seriously the claim of Hudson's wife Phyllis Gates, she would've been his beard in an attempt to avert the damage disclosure of Hudson's homosexuality might cause his career.

By the analogy between merkins and fake beards, a male acting as a beard for a lesbian is sometimes called a merkin.

Whoa! Hold it, informed and considered opinion?
Superbowl is probably a stretch but playoffs and a good positive season very possible behind Chad. Lets ride this season with what we've got. I'll say it again, if Favre comes back to football it's for Brett Favre not for the Jets. Garcia is going to start or get a nice tan in Tampa on the pine behind blubbering "oh my I'm Retiring".

It starts to like like the TV show, "Wife Swap" if we do that.

At this point, if Favre comes, which I highly doubt now, I would be OK with it, otherwise I am content to go with what we have and lay money on the fact that our Defense against the run better have gotten better; this should make our pass D better; we should have an improved running game; play action should be better because opposition has to respect it; we have improved our receiving options, and hopefully we can protect the QB better.

BTW, I did lay $100 that the Jets would win more than 7 and a 1/2 this year. That's very rare for me.

i love this idea, i've actually written about it in a couple threads now.

garcia is everything pennington and clemens are not.
he has the strong arm pennington lacks as well as experience clemens needs.
he practically willed the eagles into the playoffs two years ago, when everyone counted them out. he plays in a west coast offense and doesn't make many mistakes.

sure, he doesn't throw many touchdowns, but he throws very few picks. he only threw it away 4 times last year, in 13 games. he's the exact kind of quarterback we need right now. someone who can control the game and not throw picks as we run the ball down the other team's goddamn throats.

what people hate about pennington is that he can't lead 4th quarter drives. garcia has the arm to do so. he has the leadership as well. he brought two teams in the last two years into the playoffs when it seemed like they wouldn't be able to do so, without him.

the only knock on garcia is his age, but unlike favre he's sure he wants to continue to play. he's seeking a new deal right now.

i know you all want a solution for the future. why not settle for this temporary solution, since it won't cost us that much? (or, less than favre, anyway)

No. Rather run with Pennington and Clemens.
