Ok, so while I don't agree with the idea that the Jets could trade for a QB midseason and that this QB could take them to the playoffs, I DO think that it might not be a bad idea to look at any one of these guys as a future investment. If they can be had on the cheap and might help the team next year then I think you should absolutely make the trade. The guy that interests me the most is Kapernick as I think he's got the most talent out of all of them. Hasselback is the one that could help right the ship immediately if the Jets needed QB help ASAP though.
If Sanchez has a terrible year, they MIGHT start Tebow. They aren't going to go through some ridiculous trading scenerio in an attempt to fix the already lost season. If he starts that bad, Tebow will play. I just don't see that happening though. I love how so many people are banking on his failure this year.
Not sure what you mean by banking on his failure. But I would not be banking on his success, either, if by that you mean betting the rent on it or some other measure of virtual certainty. The fact is that most people around the league are skeptical of Sanchez. We should be, too.
It wouldn't be our lost season, the premise is that one of the listed teams is playing in a lost season and thus are looking to sell veteran pieces to gain draft picks and rebuild in the offseason. The Seahawks would not need or want Matt Flynn if they are 1-6, and would rather gain a mid round pick and move forward with Wilson as the QB in 2013. He'd then have an extra weapon or OL, or a better defense, thanks to the extra pick. Flynn on the other hand would be an upgrade on Sanchez is he is playing like shit. If we are 4-3 but Sanchez has thrown 10 TDs and 20 INTs in that time, then it stands to reason that our team will be much better with Flynn at QB instead of Sanchez. In this case we are winning in spite of our horrific QB play and are still in the hunt. So adding a veteran option like Flynn, or Hasselback, who could lead our ground and pound offense is a smart move. Then we either look to make a RG3 trade up in the offseason if it's for a 1 year rental like Hasselback or cut Sanchez loose and roll with Flynn if Flynn performs well. We can then use Sanchez's 10+ mil a year on other needs....like a RB, OT, OLB, or S.
Flynn has started a grand total of what? 3 NFL games? Most of his play is in garbage time. You'd take a complete question mark like that over a guy that has 3 years experience, including 6 playoff starts? Even if Sanchez struggles, I doubt he gets benched unless he plays abysmally and magically regresses back to rookie year level of play. I just don't see that happening, but it will depend on many factors, including the o-line, and the running game. The development of Hill is critical as well. This kind of speculation is useless, though. If the team struggles, will should THEN analyze what is going wrong and how to fix, rather than guessing about hypothetical scenarios of one possible thing that could go wrong. We are fine at QB, and people have been over analyzing that crap about Sanchez since the season ended. It's time to move on and look forward to next year.
First off I wanna say that I hope Sanchez doesn't struggle, but even if he's having a somewhat decent year, he's a better QB then most of the people On that list. Moore, and Flynn being the ones that might outplay him. Idk about Flynn, but I've seen Moore play against the Jets twice. He def has all the tools to become a solid starter. He makes some amazing throws, his mechanics are good and he's built extremely well. This is the only QB I'd "buy" if Sanchez was a complete failure, which I highly doubt that he will fail. And the reason for my doubt is simply because of what I've seen out of him in person so far. I was at the minicamp on Wednesday, and he looked pretty good. Now I know this is camp but his confidence looked good, he was poised, and he threw hard, accurately and with assurance. On top of that, he was in great shape. Put on some muscle, hes looking really healthy, and thick. Unlike the previous 2 years that I saw him. So even though this was a very long write up, with a lot of if's and different scenarios, I don't think well be looking for a QB in week 8. Then again. This is just my personal opinion, and I'm in no way an expert of any sort.
This is Mark's make-or-break year - period. Whether he would be replaced by Tebow, McElroy or some mid-season saviour it really doesn't matter. Either Sanchez takes the next step forward this season or it's back to square one. I don't have pie in the sky expectations for Sanchez this year, but I also think it's unlikely that he totally flops and loses his job. I'm really excited to see how this all pans out come September. GO JETS!!
