And I can understand why the way Mariota responded gives you some doubts. I wish he had said in a quietly confident way why he thought he would be a great choice as the #1 pick - his football IQ, accuracy, athleticism, leadership, competitiveness, etc. He didn't. It will be interesting to see what he turns out to be and who drafts him.
You winning a SB with Geno? No. Fitz? No. If MM's sitting there, you have to pick him. The Jets most likely go better than 4-12 and will not be a position to draft a top QB prospect next year.
Don't confuse cockiness/arrogance with confidence. All great players are confident but not all great players are cocky and arrogant.
Well, in about 10 days we most likely will be sitting here asking when Bowles is naming Fitzpatrick the starter..unfortunately.
That and drafting Mariota are not mutually exclusive. In fact they are complimentary and I hope it comes to pass. _
This. I've already accepted it. If the Jets want MM, they're going to have to trade up. I don't see that happening.
I'm honestly starting to think that the Jets have no shot at Mariota. I think he is going to Tennessee. I dont think Tennessee is nearly as in love with Mettenberger as reports are saying. If I were the Jets I would trade out of 6, get some additional picks, and swing one for Mettenberger though.
Even if you're right about Tennessee not being as in love with Mettenberger as reports are saying, and they take Mariota, I don't think they would trade Mettenberger. Why would they? At the very least, he will be a good backup. Injuries happen. He's still on his cheap rookie contract. There's always the chance (small though it may be) that Mariota takes a year or two to develop.
I don't agree at all.. Big difference between cockiness and confidence!! Montana had the same quiet lead by example on the field approach and his teammates loved him for it. Mariota reminds me so much of Montana with demeanour on the field.
Fitzpatrick starting while we have Mariota getting acclimated to the NFL......that would be the best scenario for this team. i also hope it comes to pass... just don't think he'll last to 6.
i see a lot of arrogance (and sense of entitlement) from Winston. he's going to rub players and coaches the wrong way before too long....especially when losses start to pile. Tampa's taking a big risk. Mariota's personality is a little different than your normal NFL QB. I'd like to see a little more fire in my QB personally, but then again it doesn't seem like much would phase him. considering the short memory NFL QB's need to have (especially in NY), it might not be such a bad thing to be low key. n0t too high on the highs, not too low on the lows. a little like Eli Manning in that regard.
"For what it's worth, once again, what I'm hearing from people I know around the Jets is that they enamored with Marcus Mariota…" -Mike Greenberg on the Mike&Mike Radio Show this morning
Kiss of death, we are not getting your boy now. Everything Greenberg says about the Jets, immediately goes to SHIT. Lock it up, take it to the bank, we are drafting Trae Waynes @ 6, cuse me why I jump off a bridge, etc
Mike Greenburg is like a male groupie for the Jets so maybe he slept with one of our scouts or something. When the F has Greenburg ever said anything intelligent about the Jets? He has a love song intro for every Jets QB that he likes. Why the hell would you cite him??
Anything to get the Mariota fans "excited" I suppose. Anything that comes out of that man's mouth is the kiss of death. I swear, each time he predicts something about the Jets, it goes awfully wrong.
