 While this is absolutely hilarious, its the truth. I wish we could have an owner who is a football minded person. Woody isn't losing that much sleep over the New York Jets.
Wait a sec.... You're talking about coaching and he's talking about GMing. If there ever was a case of apples and oranges, this is it. While both are expected to put together winning teams, it just isn't the same. GMs do not get fired with the same frequency as coaches (why is a debate for another day), their jobs are much different, and they re clearly held to different standards. So bringing out the record book and comparing BP to Ryan doesn't make sense here. You need to compare BP to GM Tannenbaum as a talent evaluator. That would be apples to apples IMO. Now I'm not sure BP comes out all that much better once you factor in his run with the Fins, but I tend to think his overall career as a GM is still far superior to Tanny.
Here's the quote I was replying to: And you do have a point that the OP talks about GM'ing and my first reply was mostly about coaching. MY original point is that Rex is getting villified by the same fans who adore Parcells, even though their records are basically identical as Jets coaches. I would imagine the answer is because Parcells turned a laughingstock into a respected team quickly, while under Rex, we might not be as respected because of some off-field stuff. But the records are virtually identical as Jets coaches. 9-7 (no playoffs), 12-4 (division title, AFCC), 8-8 vs 9-7 (AFCC), 11-5 (AFCC) and 8-8.
If I was Woody and things didn't work out this season, I'd highly consider moving Rex to Defensive Coordinator and either moving Tony to HC or bringing in somebody new. I love Rex as head coach, but he is a defensive specialist and his skills might be better utilized that way. Sparano doesn't take shit and might be a good presence to have in the HC position.
I can't agree with you today, dude. Sparano as HC? Heh! He just got fired in Miami for doing a shit job.
Let's name the last time: A head coach allowed himself to be demoted to a coordinator position while the coordinator on the other side of the ball was promoted to the head coaching position. Because I doubt it has happened since 1969 and probably hasn't happened since the early part of the 1900s, if ever. This is like the least realistic scenario of anything I have heard in a long time. I think trading for Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson this offseason may be a more realistic scenario.
I never said he doesn't. But at the end of the day he does not live and die by football. But, I guess most owners nowadays are like the that, and guys who did live and die by the game (Al Davis, Art Modell), well they are dead. Woody Johnson does not strike me as a football minded person.
