The way the highlight film shows it, they were picked off 3 times in the redzone, thats a minimum of 9 points off the board, and Morrall missed the wide open guy in the endzone for an easy 6. The Colts only 7 was scored when Unitas was in. And with the Jets only winning by 9, thats why I made the original post. But I didn't get to watch the game live, sadly.
I would call that good D & actually we picked off 4 passes that wonderful day way back on 01/12/69. Maybe U ought to have done a google of this game to get the true picture of how it played out
I did a google search and this site popped up: http://www.superbowl3.net/ Seriously, I did not create it just now. haha.
Here is ur post The way the highlight film shows it, they were picked off 3 times in the redzone, thats a minimum of 9 points off the board, and Morrall missed the wide open guy in the endzone for an easy 6. Maybe U meant to say 4 INTs but U typed only 3
Unitas could not throw deep at least in that game & Sample has told his team mates that. Sample INT #4 was on our 3 or 4 yard line
It appears U R now fully aware of what occurred in that game & you should read up on it before posting because then U would have known that we NEVER tried a pass in the 4th qtr so that we could run out the clock. Go check out that fact since that meant we were not in the least frighten by any Balt QB
Guess I qualify as an oldtimer. This is the best description of the thread. You need to watch the whole game not the highlight show. I bought it on VHS on ebay a few years ago for about ten or fiteen dollars and I watch it about once a year. The Jets really dominated the game. Unitas' touchdown came during the 69 equivalent of a prevent defense. The Jets would have won even if Unitas played from the start.
Unitas had been injured and was rusty. He couldnt throw the long ball with any accuracy at that point. A couple of the Jets' ints came on deflections and weird bounces- not necessarily morral's fault. But I do remember getting nervous when The Legend came in at QB and prayed he would not pull a miraculous comeback out of his hat.
Dopey OP is going by a highlight film.... Old timers prove him wrong.... I'm not surprised.. Way to talk without all the facts OP.
Making a hypothetical thread going against the only great win in our team's history is worse than posting without all the actual facts I would say. Although I had all the actual facts I would say. I have watched the game in it's entirety before. I was just tired last night/bored/watching the 1969 highlight film that clearly did favor the Colts for some reason.
About 2,000 years from now, the history books will say the Jets never won Super Bowl III at all. Hell, they didn't even play in it. It was a mirage.
not a chance--Unitas had a bad shoulder and he didn't do much when he got his chance in Super Bowl III. The jets totally dominated that game--The game was not even as close as the 16-7 final score --I think Jim Turner missed two field goals in addition to the three he made, and the jets kicked one of those FGs on a 4th and 1 from the goal line. Colt DE Bracey now lives in my home state and is on record several times as saying Snell should have been named MVP not Namath--I'm not sure I agree with him, but he did watch Snell run all over him and the Colts that day.
