Rex had to go. With Idzik getting fired even a complete doofus like Woody wasn't going to make the same exact mistake twice and saddle another GM with Rex.

Kyle Shanahan is definetely an interesting suggestion. Id prefer someone with HC experience but I wouldn't hate that choice at all

I always have liked Wade but he's been kinda underwealming as a HC. Coordinator may be his ideal spot. At this point he's getting too old anyway

    Cowher!?

Martyball, anyone? Sure looks like a fine blueprint for the current team.

  5. He'd bring credibility for sure..but this team desperately needs an influx of offensive mindedness...I'm willing to take a lesser name to serve that purpose.

Bowles has had a chance and he's regressing. He's worse this year than last. He's showing no signs of learning and improving. Giving guys like that more time is a waste of time. It would be one thing if he was showing clear signs of growth, improvement, of learning, adapting, but he isn't. He's stubborn or stupid or both.

I haven't forgotten about Cowher's history, that he had a few losing seasons and only won one SB. If you'll recall, however, for much of his tenure, he had absolute shit at QB who were actually worse than Fitz. He's experienced. He's seen the highs and lows of coaching in the NFL He has his methods in place. He's a no-nonsense type and would players accountable. He'd be able to make adjustments and should have some clue as to how to fix problems. The only thing that concerns me is that he's been out of coaching for quite a few years, and the game may have passed him by somewhat. The other thing is that with the new union rules, I'm not sure he'd want to return to coaching as I'm sure he'd have no patience for the sloppy play we see due to lack of practice time in pads and hitting.

I agree about Phillips. Great coordinator, lousy HC, and is too old.

Cowher probably wouldn't return to coaching, but I think Gruden would.

If there are no other options with experienced HCs, then I'd rather have Shanahan than any other OC or DC in the NFL, but may would prefer hiring a successful collegiate HC who has had some experience in the NFL as a position coach or coordinator (if there is anyone who fits that description).

    No to Wade phillips

Yez to Cowher Gruden and Grandpa Tom C : DISCIPLIARIANS IS COMMON DENONOMINATOR Exactly what this royal mess needs

Old guys vs inexperienced young HCs ,,,Wanna guess who wins that. ????? Look at Monday night with not so great Mentor vs poopy Pupil

Falling off my chair with "the game has passed them by" comments THIS IS FOOTBALL NOT COMPUTERS

    SMH 6 times

Get some young offensive minded assistant Coaches if you want young

3 Coaches mentioned understand you need an offense and defense to win

Most important they can call adjustments at halftime

I absolutely hate the idea of canning a guy after he has only had two seasons, but I feel like Bowles is absolutely lost and simply not a head coach.

I agree. It's not usually in a team's best interests to fire a HC after only 2 seasons, but when he is regressing, has shown no hint of learning, growing, improving, adapting to the job, and looks clueless and lost and is more than likely losing the team, then a move has to be made imo. If players are dogging it and losing interest because of Bowles, then the team has to cut its losses and move on.

Green Right Slot Spider Y-2 Banana

    To be exact.

P.S. Say no to Spider Y-2 Banana.

HCs do not need to be loved - that I can agree with. But if the players start despising the HC - as was the case with Gruden at TB and Oakland - that's not a blueprint for a sustained success. Take any player from the Cheaters - while they might cheat, they don't despise their HC.

Green Right Slot Spider Y-2 Banana, a play of Gruden's? I'm not familiar with that play. That's why I asked.

Same people who bitch about no offense propose d-minded replacements.

Try to pry Sean Payton from NO instead.

We are a major retooling job and at least a 4-5 year committment for anybody coming in. Would a 59 year old coach comfortable with retirement be interested in that? If Bowles really has lost confidence and ability we need somebody who's competent and in it for the long haul. I still think Bowles gets another year.

That's from West Coast offense. I think I messed up the terminology.

It should be Green/Slot Right/Spider/Y-2 Banana

Green is a formation call - It can change. Can be Strong, Weak or anything that the formation brings. [Traditionally, WCO utilized color codes for formation/protection scheme. For instance - Black 59 razor. Here Black is a 5-step play action protection scheme.]

Slot - says the slot receiver and the split end to play away from the play side.

Right - slot receiver goes into motion to the right

Spider 2 - Protection scheme. The entire line slides to the left.

Y Banana: TE runs corner route.

Here the primary read is the FB flair to the right, accompanied by the TE corner. [It's vertical stretch along the right sideline.]

The slot call here dictates the slot receiver dragging away from the playside [from the right slot position and crossing the midfield.]

Split end runs either post, go or wheel.

Cowher, coughlin, harbaugh, lewis... We just had rex ryan and todd bowles as coaches and we were lucky to get either. We have absolutely no chance at any of these guys. We will be looking at guys like jim shwartz, marrone, pagano when he gets fired. We will get trash. Our only chance for a top head coach is if we pull a bruce arians out of our ass like arizona did. We have no chance at an established A level head coach. We are a league wide joke. A step above Detroit, jax, and cleveland. Why on earth would anyone come coach this shitty fucking franchise? We couldnt even get jack del rio here now that the raiders are getting a new stadium. I love this team but lets get real.
