You maybe right....I was not trying to place to much emphasis on his overall perf this being only the 2nd pre-sea game, him being a rook, etc., it was just the "little" things I found disturbing like basic cvr'age techniques; weak attempts @ pass def, limiting yds-after-catch, pass-play anticipation - basic skills found in most decent CBs. It could even have been Rex's instructions to play off, but aren't pre-seas games also designed to "hone" 1's skill-set?

Maybe I'm making a "big to-do" about nothing & as some of you have stated, just give him time to find his "form". Mannn, I hope you guys are right!

The guy was not worthy of a top 10 pick. He's not even in the same stratosphere as Patrick Peterson (few are). He wasn't even as good of a prospect as Joe Haden or Morris Claiborne. He was a beneficiary of Alabama's excellent front 7.

Every year corners rise up the board quickly and are overdrafted based on need. So many teams are looking for good corners that a lot of these guys are overdrafted and forced into roles that they really aren't suited for.

And in general, Alabama DB's have been disappointing recently. We always hear about playing for a "Nick Saban coached defense." It's overrated. Dre Kirkpatrick, Kareem Jackson, Javier Arenas have all been underwhelming. Rashad Johnson was nothing special. A lot of people were high on Mark Barron but I think he was overdrafted as he is too much of a liability in coverage to be worthy of a top 10 pick.

    *REVISTED*

Again, I'm just not FEELIN' this kid!

He's playing extremely timid while showing a lack of confidence in his overall cover skills by affording too wide a gap between himself & the rec'vr. In addition,
he too often "bit" on the rec'vr's 1st move after being burned on Dobson's 1st qtr TD. Luckily, Pat rec'vr corps was just as bad as ours.

I'm sorry, but I think Milliner will be a liability in the 2nd'ry similar to how horrid "Gomer" Kyle Wilson is.

    Mannnn, I hope I'm wrong!

    nothing new

I'm playing Madden and Milliner is getting beat deep by every WR he lines up against

I gotta play Landry over the top every possession now killing my double safety blitz

Still waaay too early for anyone to be passing judgment. As others have said, corners usually don't blossom in their rookie year, there's no reason not to expect Dee to have a bumpy ride as he figures things out. Give the kid some time to adjust to the pros.

I hear ya Royce P, but I'm more concerned with his lack of the most basics of corner skills such as double moves, anticipation, qb reads, side-line usage, recovery speed, etc. ......Stuff 1 learns in pee-wee, junior, hi-school, 'hood football, college level!

The kid was up against one of the best QBs in the league in his second NFL game and looked like he was in over his head. Sometimes guys look lost in the beginning but I just think 2 games isn't nearly enough of a sample to really judge a player, especially his first 2 games in the league.

If you want to knock his game against the Pats, no doubt, I wouldn't deny that he looked bad out there and being benched is a pretty good sign that Rex thought so too. Hopefully it's just a bump in the road and not a sign of things to come...

He is a rookie just having played his second game. You can't make any judgement calls on him yet. Let's give him some time.

And I don't expect he will ever be as good as Revis. Revis will end up in the HoF, most likely. Those types of players don't come around often.

Milliner is a rookie with no real offseason under his belt. It will take time and probably half the season for him to come up to speed.

Please! Lets stop using a game to compare to thr real NFL. How does Milliner's programmed performance in a video game have anything remotely to do with his actual play and development??????

I agree, but why shouldn't Smith get the same amount or even more time than that given the position he plays. You buried Smith before he took a snap.

Revis got paid as a rookie and played like he was paid. Milner is going to be great in his contract year. There's very little incentive for rookies to play great under the new rules. Guys who are true professionals aka in it for the money don't waste their talent for peanuts. Milner is going to be a beast when the reward to be a beast is put in front of him. The flip side is he is paid so little compared to a good corner he doesn't have to be that good to have a spot.

Milner is being paid on par with Wilson. I expect him to play at least as good as him. To expect him to play like Revis did you would expect him to have been paid like Revis was in his rookie deal.

The free market in action. You want Milner to be the next Revis, pay the man Revis money.

"Hello, you play to win the game!"

Milner wants to be good and is playing his ass off I guarantee it. It's his second game and he has to get used to the nfl that is all. He will do nothing but improve as the season and his career move along. Rex is always rough on rookies and I believe in his strategy. Make the player have to earn it not be anointed as the man right away.

The reason Milner is playing off his receivers is because he was never asked to backpedal in college and it is fairly new to him. However he has proven that he has the athleticism to do it he just needs to work on his footwork. I have faith in Milner's ability and athleticism and he will improve.

Not making any judgements, just commenting on what seems to be an apparent lack of the most basic of coverage skills.

Agreed, but in my "book" (which means nothing nor carries any value) he's on a short leash.:)

Hence the reason why I titled this thread as such!

I buried Smith before we even drafted him. I was very specific leading up to the draft that I hoped the Jets didn't draft him and if we went QB I wanted Glennon or Nassib which we could of had in the 3rd round. Smith would have been lucky to be drafted by the Eagles in the 4th instead of Barkley.

This is absolutely retarded. By that logic Sanchez should have been balling like an all pro because we paid him franchise qb money. You can spend half a mil on a Volvo but it's not going to magically turn into a Bently. His motivation should be having a starting job in the nfl because if he doesn't play better he wont. Get the fuck outta here with that shit.
